What are your thoughts on these names?

Would also love middle name suggestions for them both

Biased as I have a Sofia 😄. Middle name Rose after my Nan

yikesanotherbooboo · 15/09/2024 17:46

They are both nice names , sorry. Leila is less well used if that is important to you. Spelling queries apply to both .

DuchessOfSausage · 15/09/2024 17:48

Sophia and Sofia are both very popular.
Leila is nice but Leyla isn't and Lily, Lila, Lola type names are very popular.

Middle name - not Rose, Grace or May.

Moreteaandchocolate · 15/09/2024 17:57

Both are lovely, Leila is my favourite and less commonly used than Sofia.

Leila Florence

Leila Rosalie
Leila Genevieve
Leila Eve

Leila Poppy
Leila Vivienne

I have a Layla, really don't like the Leyla spelling, sorry. Her initial name was going to be Sofia but I worried about the pronunciations I wanted it to be like Sofe - feeya but I knew it would get mangled by my family 😄

Great taste.

Sofia has always been a favourite of mine, i would pronounce it with emphasis on the second syllable so Su-feeeya

My husband is Turkish and Leyla was his grandmother's name although Leila is the traditional Turkish spelling so that's the reasons for those particular spellings rather than spelling with an 'A'

Both lovely names and can work in different countries. Sorry, that's not helpful!

Marcipex · 15/09/2024 22:47

Sofia, because there are so many Layla/Lila/Lola/Lily names.

There are two pronunciations used in the uk.
So-fee-a or So-fye-a.

Middle names; Jane, Madeleine, Clare, Elena.

spanishsenorita2 · 15/09/2024 22:58

Sofia Leyla or Leyla Sofia both sound really pretty and it means you can use both your favourites. You've got two gorgeous names, why look for another?

Atishooo · 16/09/2024 09:57

Leila. Anything but Rose/Grace/May.

Zelie8 · 16/09/2024 11:34

Sofia.

Leila is a lovely middle name, esp if it’s after a family member.

My Turkish friend is called Ceyda (Say-da) which is nice if you like Ada.

Thank you.

We have a friend called Ceyda but pronounced the Turkish way (Jayda)

They are both great names.

I voted for Leyla, since you write that it's a family name.

One of the nicest and most fun women I know is called Leyla!

SkaneTos · 16/09/2024 17:18

Can you use both of the names together?

Sofia Leyla or Leyla Sofia?

sel2223 · 16/09/2024 17:26

@spanishsenorita2 @SkaneTos

Thank you - I have considered using the two together but worried that they didn't sound right since both end in an 'A'

We do love those names so that would be so much simpler if we could just use them both

I prefer Leila out of them but Sofia is nice too

Leila Sofia?

MerryMarys · 16/09/2024 18:01

I prefer Sophia

sel2223 · 16/09/2024 18:28

MerryMarys · 16/09/2024 18:01

I prefer Sophia

Also beautiful but we prefer the spelling Sofia which is pronounced the same in Turkish language and closer to Turkish 'Sofya'

Sophia in Turkish would end up a very butchered Sop-hee-eh

Leila.

Jokat · 18/09/2024 21:17

I know a Leila Angelica and think that is a really beautiful name.

GoulashSoup · 18/09/2024 22:14

If I had had a daughter she would have been Leila Elizabeth.

I would have used the spelling Leila. It is a beautiful name.

sel2223 · 24/09/2024 15:07

Thank you everyone, I think we've pretty much agreed on Leila Sofia 🙂
