Blowingahoolly · 10/09/2024 23:09

Maybe they're waiting for the baby's birth before deciding.

Blowingahoolly · 10/09/2024 23:23

I guess you’re right but the more names offered I would imagine it becomes more confusing. I could be wrong ..

Just scroll on by.......

Before posting here, the OP's have probably trawled through hundreds or even thousands of names, maybe they're completely drowning in names?
Maybe posting here they'll get that one suggestion which they'll see and think 'yes, that's it!'.

What's the big deal? Unless you're the poster getting lost in a sea of names why would you be on a forum specifically for 'baby names' complaining about it?

I think when someone has a baby they have better things to do than post an update on this board! Some do and it’s lovely to find out the final name, but no shade for the new mums getting on with being new mums.

TempsPerdu · 11/09/2024 15:46

I think you're probably right OP, but those of us who are interested in names just love discussing them anywaySmile

I posted on here when we were expecting DD and the name we'd picked for her was widely critiqued as being too harsh - we used jt anyway, but it was still useful to see how it was viewed by others, and what sort of comments we might expect once we announced it!

MerryMarys · 11/09/2024 15:58

Given that we all have different tastes, surely it's inevitable that random people on the internet (on Mumsnet) are not going to like the same names.

Wouldn't life be boring if we did all choose the same names ?!

Totally agree, would be good to hear what has been chosen I guess. My 2 were way before forums, interested to see if any suggestions out of the blue had a bearing on final decision

Good way of testing the water, anonymity of MN draws out real opinion which may be helpful. IRL you’re not going to get quite the same reaction

Its sad when someone comes back to their old thread to post the name of their brand new baby, and the update is immediately followed by four people who didn't notice it was an old thread or bother to read the last posts and they all say the chosen name is their least favourite or that is hideous.

I understand why nobody would want to return to a thread after that.

I totally get that new mums have got (much!) better things to do than post updates on their chosen name and also by that point you don’t want outside opinions, you’ve made your decision. I do find though that there are a lot of threads where the original poster disappears completely and never even posts one more message after the initial post! I do wonder why they don’t at least comment to say thanks for all the replies 😊
