I really like Donnacha

rosesareredvioletsareblueaimverytiredandsoareyou · 10/09/2024 21:52

The two beginning with C are my favourites, Donnacha is my least favourite.

TheOliveGoose · 10/09/2024 21:52

Probably Darragh out of those. Not a fan of Donnacha and Dáithí at all. Caolán is fine.

KerryBlues · 10/09/2024 21:54

Darragh.

'Donnacha wish your girlfriend was hot like me'

I'm not saying this to be rude but on an anonymous forum it is a way of saying what others think.

Obviously if I knew you I'd learn how to pronounce it, and if you are in (I guess ) Ireland it would be fine, and if you love it go for it.

duckydoo234 · 10/09/2024 22:15

It's pronounced like Dunnuh-kah, but can see why it might look like Dontcha

I’m not familiar with how to pronounce this name and unfortunately, this was my first thought too.

Mabelthebore · 10/09/2024 22:28

Darragh is my favourite.
Donnacha is nice ( like it for a brown haired child)
Don't like the others.

FrothyCothy · 10/09/2024 22:30

Are you in Ireland or elsewhere as that will probably make a difference to how the names are perceived!

Babyboyno2 · 10/09/2024 22:33

@FrothyCothy yes well NI

I prefer Donncha as a spelling, but it of those you list. Daithí is, I fully recognise, a nice name, but Daithí O’Sé has killed it for me. Now it makes me want to shout ‘Smarmy Hair-Transplant!’ at passers-by.

I would pay no attention to the Little Englanders displaying their usual wit.

Babyboyno2 · 10/09/2024 22:35

Also like these James, Oscar, Noah and Freddie. Just thought an Irish name would be nice but finding it hard to be 100% set on one

Love Donnacha and Daithí

Am personally a fan of the F names, Feidhlim, Fionn and Fiachra

Babyboyno2 · 10/09/2024 22:37

@AtYourOwnRisk i actually preferred the Donncha spelling aswell when looking it up online. But thought it might of been more “made” up

OP posts:
Babyboyno2 · 10/09/2024 22:38

@Forestcantrun Fionn, as like “fee-on”?

Fionn as in ‘Fyun’, roughly.

I love Fiachra, Ferdia, and Felim/Féilim. DS was nearly Iarla, and I think Naoise was another we seriously considered.

Babyboyno2 · 10/09/2024 22:45

@AtYourOwnRisk i absolutely loved Iarla when I first heard it , just not sure how people would cope with the pronunciation here

AtYourOwnRisk · 10/09/2024 22:46

I know a teenage Iarlaith in London. And a Naoise in Newcastle.

PicturePlace · 10/09/2024 23:17

Donnacha is a gorgeous name

EdgeOfSixty · 10/09/2024 23:35

I like Darragh. Used to work with a Darragh and he had a great sense of humour.

midtownmum · 10/09/2024 23:40

I prefer it spelled Donnchadh (which English people will struggle with even more, of course). I also really like Darragh, but would spell it Daire. (Sorry... this isn't that helpful!) Other options - I wanted to call DS Ruán but DH didn't like it. Or Séamus? If you like James?

Messen · 10/09/2024 23:43

I like Darragh and Donnacha. Known lovely ones of both.

I always think that the spelling Daire is a bit feminine, I automatically think girl when I see it spelled that way.

SoftLittleBunnyRabbit · 10/09/2024 23:50

It's a nice name but always reminds me of Donaghadee Grin
