I'm compiling a name list for my first child, and if it's a boy then we'll name him Laith (Arabic for lion). Me and my husband are both British Pakistani. The thing is, I'm not sure if it would stand out or look odd on a boy of our background since one of my friends said that she thought we'd go for an Arabic or Muslim name. I then realised that maybe it doesn't sound like it's Arabic to a lot of people.

Does anyone know a Laith who's from the same or a similar background? Just looking for reassurance since hubby isn't too sure, but I like the name 😅

Never met one, and don’t think I’ve even heard it before but it’s a fantastic name! Please use it!

I’ve know a Layth (spelt like this) who is Arabic and think the name is lovely.

Little boy in grandson's class has the name. It's hyphenated with a surname name ending er so similar to Cooper. He will be 5 like Grandson.

Beautiful name! I’m far too old to have another baby, but if I accidentally found a kitten…

I don’t know the name, and would have assumed Scottish as well.

I have a friend called Laith!

SkalengeckOrSiegbarste · 21/09/2024 20:29

I have taught a Muslim boy called Laith, I believe dad was a British Pakistani but I'm not sure about mum. I really like the name.

Round here a laith(e) is a barn.
So no from me,

Biggirlnow · 21/09/2024 20:53

Sounds Scottish to me too, maybe because of "Sunshine on Leith". But I don't think that matters.

I have never heard of it (the area I live in is mostly white British people) but I have to say I absolutely love it. It doesn't sound 'out there' at all, just a gorgeous sounding name. And I love the meaning too.

Benshawsberries · 21/09/2024 20:55

I haven’t heard it before but I really like it

I know a Laith. Saudi Arabian.

Strokethefurrywall · 22/09/2024 00:24

I know a Laith, he must be 12 now. British mum, Muslim father.

Great name!

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 22/09/2024 00:28

I used to work with a Laith - white Scottish man who would now be in his 70s. He was very posh, old money, battered Land Rover with labradors in the back, ancient fraying knits, type of bloke, and ferociously clever. I like it.

Birdingbear · 22/09/2024 00:34

It doesn't sound Arabic. Personally don't like it. Similar to other names.

SophiaSW1 · 22/09/2024 00:39

Half my family is British Pakistani but I did not make that connection. It sounds Scottish to me

VivaciousRadish · 22/09/2024 01:12

I’ve never heard it before, and like some others, would have assumed Scottish. I absolutely love it
