I decided recently I like Soren for a girl but have since been informed it is a boys name 😂 so have been thinking about Seren?

I always like Serena, but OH doesn't. Sister is Cassidy ☺️

Thoughts/other suggestions welcome

Seren is so cute I love it

liveforsummer · 09/09/2024 11:54

Seren is nice but Serena nicer and can be shortened if wanted. I'd definitely assume Soren was a boy.

Beth216 · 09/09/2024 11:56

Seren is lovely, I prefer it to Serena. Soren just makes me think of Soreen malt loaf and i don't really like it at all.

catmum75 · 09/09/2024 11:59

Probably wouldn't use Soren for a boy, I just saw it and assumed it was a girls name til we googled it 😂 probably won't use it at all since it is apparently very masculine

I like Seren and prefer it to Serena. How about Merryn or Mirren?

BananaFrogDooby · 09/09/2024 12:15

In case you don't know, Seren means star in Welsh and is quite a popular name there. The Welsh pronunciation definitely ends in -en, rather than the -un that you'll inevitably get if you're in England.

Firsttimebabymummy · 09/09/2024 12:51

I really like it

RedRobyn2021 · 09/09/2024 12:55

We have this name on our list too

It means "star" in Welsh

Moreteaandchocolate · 09/09/2024 13:09

I love it - gorgeous name.

MerryChristmasToYou · 09/09/2024 13:46

I don't like it.

TinkerTiger · 09/09/2024 13:52

How is it pronounced? I'm saying it like Se-WREN, how do you want it pronounced? I could see it being said many different ways like SEE-wren for eg or Serene

whoscoatsthatjacket2012 · 09/09/2024 13:52

It's a beautiful name. Lovely girly sound to it.
We pronounce is Ser EN not UN here

MerryChristmasToYou · 09/09/2024 13:59

@TinkerTiger , It's SERR-enn. Will be Serrun.
Stella has the same meaning.

Ok so is the ‘serr’ sound similar to the first part of Sarah? I think it looks like a pretty name but the OP (and child) might have to spend a lot of time correcting people

bzarda · 09/09/2024 14:20

Beautiful name and I taught an absolutely lovely very clever girl called Seren a couple of years ago. Only positive connotations for me :)

MerryChristmasToYou · 09/09/2024 14:45

@TinkerTiger , no. It's like the Ser in Serendipity or Serotonin.

@catmum75 , how about Sherrin. It's a surname like Cassidy.

I pronounce the 'ser' of serendipity and serotonin the same as I pronounce the 'Sar' in Sarah :)

I live in Wales, there's the odd Seren but it's not massively popular in the bit I'm in. I really like it, as long as the second half is pronounced like 'wren'.

There's also the name Sorel if you liked Soren (which I would have assumed was a girls name too!)

KayEmAy · 09/09/2024 17:27

I ADORE the name Seren! I love Cassidy as well. Gorgeous sister names :)

PMAmostofthetime · 09/09/2024 18:53

Seren is beautiful and means star in welsh

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 10/09/2024 02:11

Very popular where I am in Wales (to the point it might date). But It’s also very pretty imo and more importantly easy to pronounce and spell (or at least I thought it was until this thread! - I’ve only ever heard it as Seh - wren (like the bird)).

Drivingoverlemons · 10/09/2024 02:20

I love the name Seren. It reminds me of that CBeebies programme about ten years ago.

Soren is German, there was one on my exchange, he was quite cool! Sora is a girl’s name in Germany that I think is sweet.
