Francophones, aidez-moi SVP! Que pensez-vous du prénom Maisie, dans un pays francophone? I already ruled it out the first time because I wasn't sure how well it would "travel", any feedback gratefully received. Merci à toutes

C'est bonne

Maisie is a lovely name, and I think it can be a good name in a French speaking country.

(I am not a native speaker of French though, so hopefully more people that are will chime in).

Afraid it’s awful and juvenile in any country and spoken in any accent.

MerryMarys · 04/09/2024 10:28

I'm afraid I also find it twee and comical.

Thanks for expressing your opinions, but my question was quite specifically to do with compatibility with the French language only. Merci quand même et bonne journée ! 😉

I don't think its twee or juvenile. I don't know if it works in France but I can't see why it wouldn't.

There's probably a more official list than this one, but it gives an idea of what current trends in France are.

I think it's fine. I can't think of any unfortunate connotations. I mean, it sounds quite like "mais si" but there are worse things out there. It's actually mildly trendy in France right now: www.prenomstat.com/?nameKey=maisie

I don’t think it’s juvenile or twee either. It was my grandmother’s name, born in the 1920s. She was a true Cockney and one of the least twee people I ever knew!
