Valentina is a beautiful name - is there a reason for not using this as the first name?

A friend's adult daughter is called Valentina and she is gorgeous and really suits the name.

Thank you everyone, some lovely suggestions here! I adore Valentina and would use it as a first name but I dislike the shortenings Val and Tina, which I think are probably inevitable! We don’t plan to use her middle name in daily life though, so I suppose it’s not hugely important that they ‘go’ together! Surname is 3 syllables and not an English surname, so I do think a 2 syllable and easier first name is best. I’ve loved so many of these suggestions and added some to the list.
I love Ruby, Thea, Mabel, Anna and quite a few others.

Gabrielle is lovely! I dislike Gabby though. A bit like with Valentina, would use it if it wasn’t for the likely nicknames that come with it!

I also forgot to mention I already have a Florence Sophia!

We'd decided on Vita as a nickname for Valentina and if we'd had Gabrielle/ella we were going to use Brie or Gia. Florence Sophia is a gorgeous name!

It’s ok, I’m almost starting to consider Valentina as a first name, each time I see it. 😂 It really is such a pretty name, if only it was always said in full!

Vita is quite sweet actually! A friend of mine (that is also persuading me to use Valentina) said she thought Vallie would be a good nickname. I didn’t really agree!

Our Florence is almost always Florence, but occasionally Florie. So far not a ‘Flo’ - which I don’t really like, but also could accept it if I had to. 😅

But my name is similar to your username! Lots of people tried to call me Nat, Nats, Talia, Tally (or I'd get called Natalie/Natasha/Nicola instead!) and everytime my parents and I said "It's Natalya" or "I only go by Natalya". People get used to it, they don't get to decide.

Problem is if Valentina herself wanted to be Tina...or Val!

That’s very true! I actually go by Talia, but my parents have always said my name in full and really don’t like it being shortened. I think that’s why I am a bit anxious at using Valentina. Because she might love being a Val or Tina. And it would make my teeth itch 😂

Oh and I also get Natasha- a LOT. Especially on the phone. 😑
