I don't like the name Dustin, I just think of dustbin.

StarvingMarvin222 · 05/09/2024 13:34

I dislike Michelle, Sharon and Tracy.
I think they sound cheap.

MerryMarys · 05/09/2024 15:19

I dislike Alfie, Albie, Archie, Artie - so twee and likely to date badly

Easy for me, Otillie. I absolutely cannot stand it, I think it looks and sounds so ugly, sorry!

I agree 😬 I find it really try hard - conjures images of Frugi clothes, those Yak dungarees and the sort of parents who send their girls to muddy parks in sparkly party frocks to be ‘whimsical’

Zoe.
Jerome.
Names like Ayla, Lyra, Aliya, Lila.
When I lived on a council estate during the peak of Amelia and Olivia being super popular, they were everywhere, and now I just can't see the names objectively.
Milo, Arlo.
Ottilie.

Used to not like weez names (Eloise, Louise, Louisa) but they've grown on me so much that I would use one.

AutumnColours9 · 08/09/2024 01:57

Anything with Ham in eg Graham

LimeQuoter · 08/09/2024 02:01

My ex suggested the name Norman...

MonsteraMama · 08/09/2024 02:29

I've read the whole thread and have been delighted to see my name several times, it's such a mid name most people don't have strong feelings about it 😆

My daughter's name is here too but spelled differently, my husband has escaped judgement the swine.

I'm joining the Arlo and Ottilie train, really don't like them, and Wren gives me the absolute rage for some reason.

🤣🤣🤣 There is an Ottilie at my daughter’s nursery that fits this description perfectly

It may have just been where I lived at the time, but there were so many Laura’s at my school! I think more likely to be the name of women naming babies, than being a baby’s name, at the moment.

I can confirm that I am a Laura and there were also many Laura's at my school and I am indeed now naming my own children 🤣

I've said it before ( probably) but Jude!
Awful. Nazi connection, Jude the Obscure etc etc.

OneTwoTen · 08/09/2024 18:14

Some of the names mentioned on here are lovely!

Mine and my children's names have all made an appearance but DH's name doesn't seem to offend anyone apparently.

I guess there really is no accounting for taste.

The only name I really dislike is Nigel. I just can't imagine looking at a gorgeous baby boy and thinking he'd suit being a Nigel. It's one of those names that I don't think will ever make a comeback - not even in a trendy ironic way.

There are lots of perfectly inoffensive names that I find very boring. Something like Hannah or Jack or Lucy, I think are really generic. But I don't hate them.

Lidlisthebusiness · 09/09/2024 22:14

So, so many.
Anything middle aged, anything ending in ie, anything too popular, anything spelt ridiculously.

My biggest pet peeve of a name though, is Jack. There just isn't a more uninspiring, boring name out there.

olivelive · 09/09/2024 22:25

Lily
Theodore
'Teddy'
Evie/Eva/Ava/Evelyn etc etc yawn yawn yawn
Esme
Reya
Nova
Arlo
Jackson
Jaxon
Silas, Ezra and all those nasty ones going around at the moment. What is this, Of Mice and Men?
Cringe.
Roman is probably the worst at the moment.
So fucking cringe and tacky.

Messen · 09/09/2024 23:34

Names I don’t like are all completely to do with the sound they make.

anything ending in ie either for a boy or a girl as I just see cutesy caricatures of people -rafferty, poppy, Alfie, ottillie, opllllMore of a problem with girls for me as I also associate it with regressive stereotypes of women as soft and fluffy. I know this is my bias.

Also don’t like anything with an embedded ugly-onomatopoeic-sounding word in it like Cillian , Clodagh, Ophelia.

If I had a boy baby now (no chance) I’d go with Cormac. For a girl, Anouk. I just love the sound they make.

Messen · 09/09/2024 23:35

That was meant to say *ophelie, not ophelia.
