Long story short. My dp is American and his mum was in New York when 9/11 happened. He has been fascinated with what happened and wants to name DD (due dec) Nina Levinn [surname] I think its wierd. Thoughts here?

I’m with you. I don’t think your DD will be thrilled about being named after a tragedy. That’s a weird thing to have a fascination with, Infact scratch weird it’s bloody macabre.
However I wouldn’t have made the connection had you not pointed it out. I can unhear it now though.

Nah, surely not.

He wants to name her after a traumatic event and so her name is essentially nine eleven... He doesn't sound mature enough to be fathering a child to be honest.

Lol. Really.

Have you considered having two middle names? Tragedeigh or Dezasta.

If you hadn't mentioned 9-11 then I wouldn't have made the connection. Nina is a nice name but I agree with pp, it's weird.

I wouldn't either

There were over 8 million people living in New York in 9/11, and goodness knows how many more visitors. Yes, it was a truly terrible tragedy but your DP's mother is far, far from being the only person to have been affected by it. Most don't feel the need to call their children after it. And was your DP even there at the time??

As others have said, his fascination with mass killing sounds more than a little unhealthy. He either needs to see a professional about it, or grow up. Or, perhaps, both.

IDontLoveTheWayYouLie · 29/08/2024 18:37

I didn't get it straight away 🤦‍♀️ but I'm sure a lot of people will and if you're doing it on purpose then it's really weird.

Christ almighty! OP please ignore these idiots! Nina Levinn is a perfectly acceptable name.

If you're looking to troll it would have been better to stay you're considering Nina Levinn, what do we think? Then sit back and wait for the first person to click and point out to you how it's a big no no (I got it on the title alone, it's hardly discreet), claiming ignorance.

The story about a father to be apparently wanting to name his daughter after such a tragic event is just weird. Adding about his apparent obsession with mass murder is just sick to be honest. A very unfunny attempt at a wind up, given the subject matter.
