Sister for Clemmie

Hi ladies, so my husband and I have had a real nightmare with agreeing on a girls name this time around. I’m 30 weeks now and we’ve finally settled on two names, but I’d be interested to get some outsiders opinions (we’re not discussing with family!)

Our 2.5 year old daughter is called Clemmie (Clemmie Blue), so we wanted a name which complimented her sisters. The two names we’ve narrowed down to are:

Camille Primrose (Cami-Rose) Pronounced [Ca-mee]
Aria Primrose

Now I’m swaying towards Camille because I adore French girls names and I think Clemmie and Cami sounds really cute. My DH though is worried it sounds too similar to Clemmie and people will think we’re being lazy?! What do you think? I think it has quite a ring to it, I can imagine Clemmie and Cami together.

We also really like Aria, however we wanted something unique and I feel as though Aria is super popular these days. I do think it’s beautiful though and likewise goes well with Clemmie, but I don’t like ‘Ria’ as a possible nickname, and working in a school, I know it’s an inevitable abbreviation!

Anyway, it’s likely we’ll decide for certain when we see her little face, but I’d love to hear what you think and which name combo you prefer.

Thank you! x

I prefer aria primrose and think cami is very very similar to clemmie if I’m honest but if you don’t mind that then go for what you prefer.

LadyDanburysHat · 29/08/2024 11:38

I agree with your DH the two names sound far too similar.

HettyCletter · 29/08/2024 11:49

Clemmie and Camille sound far too similar to me. If I imagine shouting each of those names (eg. calling one in from the garden), I can’t actually tell which is which!

Gemstonebeach · 29/08/2024 11:55

Is it really just Clemmie or is it Clementine in full?

Clemmie and Cami are definitely too similar plus lots of people will pronounce Camille like it is spelt.

How about Billie, Maisie, Indie, Sophie?

I was wondering this. Not as similar if it's Clementine and Camille. She could get Millie?

I suppose Clementine and Camille are quite different, and they might be more likely to use their full names as they get older? If they will exclusively be Clemmie and Cami then I think they are too similar - v difficult to say quickly!

SaulHudsonDavidJones · 29/08/2024 12:29

I think Clemmie and Cami are too similar, although i do like them.

Completely agree

Dolliesdisasterousdayout · 29/08/2024 22:13

Camille is beautiful but not with Clemmie. Cami and Clemmie sound silly, maybe Clemmie and Milly?

Is Clemmie Clementine or Clemency?

Dolliesdisasterousdayout · 29/08/2024 22:13

Couldn’t you use Primrose as a first name rather than middle name?

MrsMitford3 · 29/08/2024 22:19

I have a Clementine/Clemmie and when she says Clemmie people often think she is saying Chloe.

Sadly I think Cami and Clemmie too close even though I think it's cute

back to the drawing board I'm afraid

WrongSortOfPoster · 29/08/2024 23:32

Clemmie and Posy is better

miniaturepixieonacid · 30/08/2024 00:32

Sorry, I also think Camille and Clemmie are really, really similar - not far off the same letters arranged in a different order. Cami and Clemmie also sound very same-y.

I love Aria. I don't know how popular it is but I've never met one in real life and I've been a teacher for 18 years.

Also agree that Primrose could work as a first name. Clementine/Clemency and Primrose sound great together.

Or, other names which are maybe a bit like Camille but not as similar to Clemmie:
Calliope (Callie still quite close to Clemmie but at doesn't have the m sound as well as the c and the l)
Camilla (could use Milla instead of Cami or not shorten)
Clarice
Celest
Constance (Connie)

sel2223 · 30/08/2024 17:05

If you like French names, what about Francine (nn Frankie)?

Haggia · 30/08/2024 17:40

It wouldn’t be my choice but I can appreciate Clemmie as a sweet name and Camille too. But Clemmie and Cami (Clammy?) are awkward together, and if it’s Clementine and Camille I honestly think it sounds like you’re naming a herd of cows. Sorry that sounds so rude.

What about something like Sylvie, or the classic Louise?

Namerchangee · 30/08/2024 17:43

Camille isn’t pronounced caa-mee. If anything it’s ca-meal isn’t it? I love the name but it’s too close in sound to your eldests.

WrongSortOfPoster · 30/08/2024 18:34

@Namerchangee , it's French, and both Cam-eel and Cam-ee are possible, or so I've heard. I think I would expect Cameel or even Cam-ill in the UK.

blackoverbillsmothers · 30/08/2024 18:42

So sorry but my first thought was Cami knickers.

WrongSortOfPoster · 30/08/2024 19:22

Not the only one @blackoverbillsmothers

It’s definitely pronounced ca-mee but didn’t realise this until I watched Emily in Paris

Love this combo!

fourelementary · 30/08/2024 21:46

I love Clementine and Matilda! Sorry but Clemmie and camille are too similar when shortened and their initials would be the same too which is annoying.

pambeesleyhalpert · 30/08/2024 21:48

Yeah they're too close unfortunately! I love Clemmie. I also love fleur. Another French name I adore is Manon I think it's absolutely beautiful but i don't think it goes with Clemmie... Not French but I love Pearl and think it goes well!

Oor · 30/08/2024 21:52

Is Clemmie short for clementine? I think as a pp has said that clementine and primrose sound lovely together. You could have the nickname posy or rosy. Clemmie and cammie together sound far too similar
