Baby boy names Lucas, Reuben or Theo

Hello, we have just found out we are having a baby boy. As much as we are over the moon, we were more set on a girls name! We are between Lucas, Reuben and Theo. What are people's thoughts? Also I was very prepared to be a girl mummy but a bit scared to be a boy mum but excited. Any hints or tips to get me prepared for our boy?

Thank you for reading

I love Theo! I also like Lucas, not so keen on Reuben

juicydroppop · 28/08/2024 18:00

I have a Theo (Theodore) 🥰

In terms of tips: always be prepared when you take his nappy off or you might end up in the firing line of a water fountain!

shoopshoopdedoo · 28/08/2024 18:05

I prefer Theo, though it’s super popular. I’ve never liked Lucas and I’m not so keen on Reuben either.

Being a boy mum is exactly the same as being a girl mum, except you’re more a bit more likely to get wee in your eye.

blackcherryconserve · 28/08/2024 18:16

DGS born 2 months ago is a Reuben!

muddyford · 28/08/2024 18:19

I love Reuben.

BCBird · 28/08/2024 18:22

Love them.all OP. Congratulations

I love Reuben and Theo but never liked the name Lucas

Nicebloomers · 28/08/2024 18:29

Reuben.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 28/08/2024 18:46

Lucas is nice. Theo will likely be one of many (Theo’s and Theodore’s seem to be very popular plus soundalike Leo) and I’m personally not keen on the sound of Reuben.

Mumsnet is really against “gender disappointment” but I think it’s quite common for women to initially want girls- simply because as women we assume we’ll understand them better. But as a mum to a DS, trust me that once they are here you won’t care and wouldn’t change them (plus no guarantees that a daughter would be anymore like Mum personality-wise than a son will or won’t be anyway 🤣). No special boy tips, they are each so individual.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 28/08/2024 18:49

Oh, and I never found the wee spraying thing once you take the nappy off to be a major issue. I was just grateful that boys are less likely to get UTI’s - baby poonarmi’s aren’t uncommon and it tends to get everywhere, including all over their front bits 😩

Beansandneedles · 28/08/2024 18:54

Lucas!

Rubens are 10 a penny round here which would be off putting to me (one class at school has 5 of them in one class!!) and just not a fan of Theo at all.

Congratulations on little one! I thought I was having a girl but ended up with a boy. He's an absolute delight <3

Babies are all so different, hard to give advice based on gender really but stereotypically be prepared for them to be super energetic!! Lots of my friends had girls the first time round and would do things like coffee dates whereas I had to be outside and on the move to keep my son occupied as he's a whirlwind. Then they all had boys second time around and I had a girl 😂 so now they're all tearing around the park and I'm enjoying hot coffees in the cafe. Though to be fair she's still a bit of a whirlwind! Must be how I make them.

Pipecleanerrevival · 28/08/2024 18:56

Lucas (because I once taught a brilliant one)

Reuben is also nice.

Theos are ten a penny.

Lucas!! Not Reuben and too many Theo's around..

Normallynumb · 28/08/2024 19:04

I have a 23 year old Lucas so I'm biased!
Reuben is lovely

FayCarew · 28/08/2024 19:06

Not keen on any of them.
Lucas - OK, I like Luke.
Reuben - seems a bit wet. gets misspelt.
Theo - I don't like it. Leo is so much nicer.

Normallynumb · 28/08/2024 19:07

Oh and Don't be scared of having a boy
I have 3 wonderful sons
They're all different personalities despite what is between their legs, as are girls
Top tip for a newborn boy
Hold a happy up when van you remove the old one as they often wee a fountain!

Normallynumb · 28/08/2024 19:09

Nappy not happy
Ignore the van

I've got a Reuben, I don't really like your other names. I've only got boys but someone said something about more chance of being peed on during nappy change, that's never happened with me but did when changing my niece!

BoleynMemories13 · 28/08/2024 20:36

All 3 are lovely names, all fairly popular statistically right now so I wouldn't let any comments about one being significantly more popular than the others sway you as it just depends on who people know. All 3 are popular for a reason, as they're lovely names.

My own order of preference is Lucas, Theo then Reuben but you have a lovely list and I don't think you can go wrong with any of them.

Lorelaigilmore88 · 28/08/2024 20:37

Reuben :) its gorgeous and was on my shortlist. The others are nice too but more common. I prefer Luca to Lucas.

Firsttimebabymummy · 28/08/2024 20:41

Like all these. My order of preference is
Reuben
Theodore
Lucas

KimKardashiansLostEarring · 28/08/2024 20:44

Reuben - I know kids with it spelled Reuben, Rueben and Ruben, so that might be annoying. Don’t care if they’re wrong, I still know them IRL.

Theo - absolutely everywhere, because it’s a nice name of course, but there’s probably even more Theos around here than there are Freddies!

I absolutely love Lucas and would have chosen it but doesn’t work with our H surname (ends up sounding like Luca S…)

Boy tips… don’t know really. They’re just people. I have 2 and they’re very different to each other. Never had one wee in my face or at all when nappy came off. Got a daughter too and she seems more complex. Boys are simple loving souls. Great huggers.

NavyKitchen · 28/08/2024 20:47

I'm biased because ds2 and 3 are Lucas and Theo (ds1 is Max) Had I had a ds4, Reuben would have been a consideration. My favourite name is actually Theo, despite it being the 3rd one I chose 🤷🏼‍♀️

mrsed1987 · 28/08/2024 20:48

We have a nearly 6 year old Lucas and have only met 1 other so far a couple of years above him at school.

We also have a Reuben and Theo in our friendship group but I think Theo is the most common out of the 3.

Congratulations, I have 2 boys and love it.
