Have a name for a boy sorted but after much discussion have narrowed girls names down to Poppy (dh's choice) or Polly (my choice). I love Poppy as well but wonder if it is the name of a child not an adult and that it may become a 'bit common'. What do you think?

i prefer Poppy.

shabster · 17/04/2008 07:00

I like both of them but think Poppy sounds better. It sounds happy and Summery. Although having had 4 boys I don't think I am any expert in girls names

Yes I like Poppy best.

kayzisexpecting · 17/04/2008 07:02

Poppy. Its sounds much nicer.

BubbaAndBump · 17/04/2008 07:02

Both are lovely names but I think you're right in thinking there are a lot of Poppys out there (or should that be Poppies?! lol). We struggled big time to choose a name for a boy and couldn't decide between two. We did have a name for a girl sorted out but EVERYBODY was telling us it was a boy. We never had to make that choice as our gorgeous little girl was born last May

Also, YOU go through the labour, and if your DH is present, he'll give in to anything when he sees what you've done for him

gillaz · 17/04/2008 07:03

Thankyou - am having a Poppy day today but it changes with the wind.
Bloody hell, I've obviously got far too much time on my hands. My brain used to be full of really useful stuff whereas now I can spend hours deliberating over a name. This baby really needs to get here soon.

Lol, I'm clearly not with the times here - still like both though.

Don't wish away your time!!! You'll wonder how you managed to think of anything other than feeding times (sounds like a zoo, sorry!) and sleep times, and nappy changes before too long.

AbbeyA · 17/04/2008 07:19

I like both. Polly will be more unusual-Poppy seems to be popular at the moment.

MrsMattie · 17/04/2008 07:20

Polly more unusual. I prefer it. Reminds me of PJ Harvey.

belgo · 17/04/2008 07:21

Polly. I like Poppy but it's a little too little girlish. Polly is slighty less little girlish.

Prefer Molly.

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 17/04/2008 08:33

I love them both! But my cat is Poppy so I'd go with Polly, but that's not likely to affect you! Both are lovely but you won't be able to use both lol!

Amapoleon · 17/04/2008 08:42

My dd [7]is Poppy, we live in Spain so I didn't realise it was so popular in England. I don't think it's very high up on those most popular name lists though. So I wouldn't let you put you off if you like it.

Amapoleon · 17/04/2008 08:42

Oops , wouldn't let it put you off.

prettypurpledaisy · 17/04/2008 08:45

I love Poppy and wanted to call my daughter it but it was the family dogs name so decided against it, she ended up as a Daisy instead, although my dad wanted us to call her Queenie!

gillaz · 17/04/2008 09:10

belgo - did really like Molly until I found out Kerry Katona had a daughter called Molly. Somehow, put me off straight awaay!!

Love the name Poppy

Not so keen on Polly. Not sure why as I have a Mollie, which is a similar sounding name. Love the name Mollie, but don't fee same about Polly for some reason.

mustsleep · 17/04/2008 09:23

dd is poppy and is nearly three and we've never met another near here

plus whenever anyone asks her name they always say "oh that's a lovely name)

AbbeyA · 17/04/2008 09:25

The name Poppy is very common around my area.

AbbeyA · 17/04/2008 09:26

I mean common as in lots of them.

flubdub · 17/04/2008 09:27

Poppy

cyteen · 17/04/2008 09:37

I like both, but Polly just has the edge for me - less girly, and also Polly Harvey is a total goddess.

surprise · 19/04/2008 23:14

I know loads of Poppys(or should that be Poppies?). I'd avoid it as it's quite common and a bit girly. Polly is a great name imo.

Ellica · 19/04/2008 23:53

my beautiful god daughter is a Poppy and i think its a great name and definately suits her (although i am totally bias!)
Polly reminds me of a polly pocket toy but still nice
what about Holly as others have mentioned Molly already...
good luck!

itsahardknocklife · 19/04/2008 23:59

I like both. Pretty names. I think I prefer Poppy.

dizzydixies · 20/04/2008 00:23

know a sally too and that suits her as well
