People have been know to laugh when I tell them my little girls name and I dont know why. I love it and she loves it. She is called Elaine and she is four. People also often think they have missed heard it and call her Elanor or Elizabeth and once Jazmin(?!) so what do you honestky think of it? Is it stupid?

Drew Barrymore isn't ANdrew Barrymore -- Drew is a family surname on her father's side (good grief, I am so sad for knowing that...)

StealthPolarBear · 18/04/2008 20:36

lol at Jazmin - surely they must have had her mixed up with someone else!
It is old fashioned, I bet in 10 years time it will be popular again!

StealthPolarBear · 18/04/2008 20:37

Sorry that wasn't meant to be a criticism - it is old fashioned, as are a lot of names which are becoming more popular!

how can they get elaine wrong?!

TheOriginalYorkshireLass · 18/04/2008 20:38

AN-Drew...

I stand corrected. That came from some crappy documentary I watched years ago...

apologies.

I still like "Drew" though. For a girl.

And for that matter, "Andrew". For a boy.

'The poem 'The Lady of Shalott' by Tennyson is thought
to be loosely based on Elaine, the fair maid who was in
love with Sir Lancelot of Arthurian legend, as portrayed
in Sir Thomas Malory's 'Morte D'Arthur'.
Lancelot, alas, only had eyes for Queen Guinevere...'

Its a very pretty name and I know a very lovely adult Elaine.

I think it's okay. Fairly uncommon though at 1900 last year in the rankings in the name stats.
I love Elsie too!
