Thoughts on the name Hollie?

Surname is Rosewood so the full name would be Hollie Rosewood. DH thought it was nice, but some of the family thinks Holly is better. I thought Holly looks a little more dated.

They both sound the same!

Blackeyedcat · 20/08/2024 01:46

@anonhawk3 I think Hollie spelling looks cuter :) and nicer 🥰

5byfive · 20/08/2024 01:50

Spelling a name incorrectly doesn’t make it less dated. I like Holly.

Having a name spelt an unusual way (mine isn’t actually incorrect though) is really annoying as you have to spell it out 3 or 4 times a week.

Needanewname42 · 20/08/2024 01:51

I prefer Holly but Holly Rosewood sounds like some sort of plant or tree.

I think with Rosewood I'd avoid all sorts of plant and tree names, or she risks sounding like a garden center.

Or else kids will drop the Rose bit and she'll end up as Hollywood

Sorry Op, but I do like Holly just not with Rosewood

DifficultBloodyWoman · 20/08/2024 01:53

Spell it with a y or doom her to a lifetime of correcting people!

Prriorayingly · 20/08/2024 02:15

Do your child a favour and give her a name that is spelled correctly. Holly is a lovely name.

Foreverexhausted1 · 20/08/2024 02:21

Hollie was on my list of girl's names, I'd spell it the way you have too although I'm not sure it works with your surname sorry OP

Holly is the correct spelling. Hollie is a tediously try-hard to be different spelling and she'd forever be correcting it in adult life - "No, Holly with an 'ie' at the end not a 'y'"

Either way, holly is a type of timber, and so is rosewood. And I wouldn't name a girl after two types of timber. Holly Smith, Holly Jones, etc, fine, but not Holly Rosewood.

I'd be tempted to go for Rose Rosewood, though. I do like an echo-y name. There was a boy at my primary school called StJohn StJohn.

avignon1234 · 20/08/2024 02:27

It is a lovely name, but for all the reasons, do spell it how most would. Holly.

mathanxiety · 20/08/2024 02:29

Lovely name, and I've come across both spellings.

Alex Drake · 20/08/2024 02:30

Holly is lovely as it is. Don't like Hollie as much.

asterel · 20/08/2024 02:40

Hollie with an ie is very 90s/early 2000s, sorry! Holly is nice but doesn’t go so much with the surname. Hattie? Molly?

This.

Chillilounger · 20/08/2024 03:03

Holly is better.

MirandaBlu · 20/08/2024 03:19

Holly is a traditional girls' name, from the plant. I don't dislike Hollie, but it's not a logical variant of Holly; I would guess it to be either a diminutive for some name with a -hol- or -hal- sound or similar (Halina? Mahalia? Harriet? Michal? Nathalie?) or a cognate of Haleh/Halle, or maybe a surname. I really like Holly Rosewood, and actually Hollie Rosewood is nice too - but it definitely has a nature-y, Wiccan kind of vibe. Hollie probably avoids that a little bit more than Holly, but not much.

This. Lovely name

TwinklyNight · 20/08/2024 04:33

Holly Rosewood.
(I know you didn't ask about a middlename, but Elizabeth would fit nicely)

Curious how you have to spell your name 3 or 4 times a week.... is it to do with your work or every day life?

I prefer Hollie to Holly but love both and think it's a fab name

Firsttimebabymummy · 20/08/2024 06:11

I prefer Holly and like the name.

wickerlady · 20/08/2024 06:35

Definitely Holly

WickieRoy · 20/08/2024 06:39

Much prefer Holly but agree it doesn't go with your surname.

Molly?
Lottie as a nickname for Charlotte?
Polly? (I don't love it, but nothing wrong with it iykwim)

sashh · 20/08/2024 07:00

Sorry but I think Holly Rosewood sounds like a lovely place for a picnic

sel2223 · 20/08/2024 07:05

I love the name Holly but I agree with pp, I wouldn't put it with your surname. Sorry.

It sounds like a type of wood/tree or a place name.

Do you have any other favourites?

RaspberryWhirls · 20/08/2024 07:05

Terrible name combination, sounds like the parents are having a cruel joke at the baby's expense. Firstly, by not being able to spell her name correctly & secondly by taking the horticultural theme too far.

The surname Rosewood requires a strong, classic girls name such Anna, Catherine, Isabella etc.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 20/08/2024 07:12

Hallie or Halle are similar and lovely
