What names has your DH come up with. There must be a middle ground

spongelover · 15/08/2024 12:52

Solomon is nice :)!

How about Kai or Benjamin

Beth216 · 15/08/2024 13:02

Solomon always makes me think of solemn. What about Sol? Could be what your ds would end up being called anyway and is much lighter sounding and a name in it's own right.

Blake77 · 15/08/2024 13:03

It's lovely

mangobe · 15/08/2024 13:39

I like Sol for a nn too!! Maybe I need to push this one a bit harder 🤔😂

Thanks for all your other suggestions - Saul and Isaac also on our list

How about Abraham nn Abe or Bram

Or Sebastian.. it’s less interesting though, as quite a few of them

Oh I like Saul! That’s another very underused one

Silas and Seth too

But I’d go with Saul (or Abraham!)

Do you like Sullivan? I like it a lot more than Solomon and I also think Sully is cute as a nickname

There are loads of Solomons in my family (60s, 30s, teens and young children). They all go by Sol and it definitely suits young & old. It’s a great name!

Benvolio · 17/08/2024 22:29

To people suggesting Sullivan as an 'alternative': Solomon and Sullivan are completely different names.

Solomon: ancient Hebrew. Used particularly meaningfully by Jews, Muslims and Christians; African Americans; seventeenth century (and later) Protestants; anyone looking for sun imagery (with nn Sol) etc. Solomon is said to have written The Song of Songs (most beautiful bit of Bible), connecting sex and romantic love with godliness. Supposedly wise eg biblical story of the women who were challenged to split a baby.

Sullivan is a common Irish surname, often used as a given name by 20th and 21st century Irish Americans and later by others of Irish heritage. It means 'dark eyes'.

No comparison.

If you aren't Irish, it's a bit weird and sad (I think) to call a kid Sullivan with no family connection.

localnotail · 17/08/2024 22:46

I thought it was a Jewish name?

theduchessofspork · 18/08/2024 00:24

It’s an Old Testament name, so as Christian as it is Jewish
