Hi everyone, I have a 3y old named Eloise and am currently 31w pregnant with her baby brother but can’t seem to choose a name. Which one do you think goes best with Eloise: Elijah or Alexander? We’re in the UK and there will be no middle names. Surname is Hare.

DH and I also like Archie, Nathaniel and Theodore but his favourite is Alexander and my favourite is Elijah.

Thank youu

I like both but feel Alexander works better. Potential abbreviations for Eloise and Elijah are too similar (Ellie and Eli). Even if you always use their full names, sometimes you don't know which nicknames will stick.

steviejoy · 13/08/2024 22:43

Both are lovely, but I think Alexander! Whatever you choose will be perfect though❤️

Alexander by a long shot.

purpleme12 · 13/08/2024 22:50

My child is Eloise

I would have called a boy Nathaniel

Eggnogg90 · 13/08/2024 22:56

Alexander!

Daffyyellow · 13/08/2024 23:09

I much prefer Alexander.

I don’t think Elijah works week with a sibling called Elouise.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 13/08/2024 23:12

Usually I adore b/g sibsets with the same initial but I agree here that obvious potential nn’s are just too similar - so definitely Alexander, it has a more classic sound as a bonus too imo.

Yes I agree with this.

Thank you everyone!! I was thinking about the whole Ellie & Eli nickname and didn’t think it would be a problem because we never call her Ellie, 90% of the time we use her full name and sometimes we call her Ellie Bear but I see what you mean, we can’t know what nicknames their friends will use etc. I think Alexander does seem like the safest choice, just need to get used to it I guess.

Eloise and Elijah are too matchy.
Eloise and Alexander is a much better pair of names.

user1492757084 · 14/08/2024 03:22

Alexander is top.

pjparty · 14/08/2024 04:19

Alexander so that they have different initials.

Also for some reason think that Elijah Hare sounds like 'I like your hair' no idea if just me!

Firsttimebabymummy · 14/08/2024 07:59

Alexander 100% ! Such a lovely name and pairs very well

BoleynMemories13 · 14/08/2024 08:09

Eloise and Elijah are a big no. You may not think it's an issue now, while they're 3 and newborn, because YOU don't call her Ellie (even though you admit sometimes you do...). You don't own her name though. You'd basically be limiting them as they themselves may wish to shorten to Ellie/Elle and Eli when they're older, which is a bit difficult if you have a sibling with a virtually identical name shortening.

Definitely Alexander out of the two, although Nathaniel and Theodore also go well with Eloise. I like Nathaniel the best.

Alexander

sel2223 · 14/08/2024 08:27

I love the name Elijah but with Eloise, Alexander is so much better suited

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 14/08/2024 19:07

Alexander.

its a nicer name and Elijah is doesn’t work with Eloise.

JumpinJellyfish · 14/08/2024 19:13

Alexander.

One of my top names - love the full name but also Al, Alex, Xander, Sasha. It’s timeless but also cool, works internationally, no spelling issues, not too common, a proper classic.

Also very nice with Eloise whereas I think Elijah sounds a bit weird (with Eloise and also with your surname) and same initials and first syllable is annoying for siblings.

Awrite · 14/08/2024 19:16

Alexander or Nathaniel.

Actually, Alexander - go for Alexander.

BobbyBiscuits · 14/08/2024 19:19

I love Alexander as a middle or first name.
Not so keen on Elijah. For me it sounds a bit too religious, but obviously I don't follow religion and if you do it's a different story!
Alex is nice as the short version. Or some people use Al, Ally, Lex, Xan, Xander or Sandy! So loads of options.

Pocketfullofdogtreats · 14/08/2024 19:19

I agree with the others that Elijah is probably not a great choice here, although I much prefer it. Alexander is a bit dull. Maybe there's another great name out there. What about Gabriel?

dbeuowlxb173939 · 14/08/2024 19:25

Alexander goes much better.
Could you go Alexander Elijah or do you have a different middle name planned?

DinnaeFashYersel · 14/08/2024 19:27

Alexander
