Nathaniel vs Cooper

DH and I can’t decide between Cooper and Nathaniel (Nate). Baby due in several weeks.

My only concern it that Cooper is a bit chavvy? compared to Nathaniel. We already have a Miles.

I really like
Henry
Edward
Joseph
But DH vetoed all of these!

All opinions welcome!

Nathaniel for sure. I know too many dogs called Cooper and find Nathaniel more classy. It was on my list too but I had a girl.
Nate is lovely too.

Biscuitsneeded · 08/08/2024 09:40

Nathaniel - lovely.
Cooper I honestly find a bit hipster/try-hard. Will date massively. But of course that's just one person's opinion, and I don't like surnames used as first names anyway!

otravezempezamos · 08/08/2024 09:42

Nathaniel is a great name. Cooper sounds like a dog.

BoleynMemories13 · 08/08/2024 09:44

Two completely different styles of names. Nathaniel is traditional, with cool nn options with Nate/Nathan. Cooper is a surname/dogs name.

Nathaniel goes much better with Miles and is so much nicer than Cooper. Easy choice for me.

Lifeinlists · 08/08/2024 09:47

Nathaniel 100% better than Cooper.
You have better taste than your DH if he vetoed those others.

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 08/08/2024 09:54

Love Nathaniel (Nate). Unfortunately my husband didn’t want to use it.

I don’t like Cooper.

pamshortsbrokenbothherlegs · 08/08/2024 10:56

Nathaniel is one of my all time favourite boys' names, it's so beautiful and classy. Also every one I've ever met has been charming and handsome. 😅

It also goes beautifully with Miles!

WiganPie · 08/08/2024 10:56

Cooper is a surname. Nathaniel is a bit long but is a classic.

SnowFrogJelly · 08/08/2024 11:03

Not Cooper!

shoopshoopdedoo · 08/08/2024 11:14

Nathaniel. Definitely not Cooper.

I also love the choices that have been vetoed 🙈

boysmuminherts · 08/08/2024 11:14

100% Nathaniel over Cooper

Penguinsmum · 08/08/2024 11:18

Definitely Nathaniel

Shibr · 08/08/2024 11:18

I think Nate sounds ‘chavy’(as you put it). Cooper sounds like a nickname to me, but marginally better than Nate.

HugHog · 08/08/2024 11:22

I prefer Nathaniel. Plus I think "Miles and Cooper" sounds like a business name, while Miles and Nathaniel sound good together.

user1492757084 · 08/08/2024 11:28

Neither are favourite's for me.
I prefer Miles with Nathaniel.

Do you like ..
Neil
Nathan

Nathaniel!

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 08/08/2024 13:44

Nathaniel!

Westfacing · 08/08/2024 13:45

Nathaniel!

KayEmAy · 08/08/2024 15:54

I prefer Nathanial with nn Nate or even Tate (though that might be more American) :)

I don't mind Cooper, I just prefer other C boy names more -
Carter, Cameron, Cole, Clay, Christopher (Kit), Caleb, Cain, Conrad

Other ideas based on your list:

Tristan
Emmett
Dean
Jay

Damian
Holden nn Denny is cute
Corbin

Changingname1988 · 08/08/2024 15:59

The only Cooper I know is a very boisterous spaniel so I’ve only heard the name being shouted in frustration or followed by “stop pulling”. I would choose Nathaniel.

SprinkleOfSunak · 08/08/2024 16:01

Nathaniel. I don’t like Cooper.

I also don’t like names shortened, so would be insisting others call him Nathaniel and not Nate.

salamithumbs · 08/08/2024 16:03

Definitely Nathaniel.... Cooper just makes me think of chicken coop (and pooper scooper 😬)

spiderlight · 08/08/2024 16:10

Nathaniel/Nate goes much better with Miles. Cooper is too surnamey and doesn't have the same vibe.

BobbyBiscuits · 08/08/2024 16:17

Nathaniel is nice. Nat or nate for short.
What about Nathan, Daniel, Theodore, Luke, Freddie, Fintan, Evan, River, Samuel, Alexander?
Dk if those are on your radar at all but they're all nice.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 08/08/2024 16:19

Nathaniel. It's a classy name and sounds great with Miles. Cooper.... isn't and doesn't. Plus there's a lot more you can do with Nathaniel if you want to shorten it - Nat Nate Nathan; Cooper is just going to get Coops.
