Baby boy due in September and my OH likes this name. How would you pronounce it? With a hard T or a soft th? And which spelling? What do you all think of the name? Many thanks!

Anthony.

Anthony. My brother is Antony and he’s forever having to correct peoples spelling of it.

Firsttimebabymummy · 07/08/2024 17:46

Congratulations

Antony

Anthony but don't pronounce the 'th' in the middle. Lovely name.

Anthony

Anthony with a hard T
I've heard people call their son 'Anfony' because they opted for the 'th' sound but couldn't pronounce it. Their child genuinely thought his name was Anfony

Velvetbee · 07/08/2024 17:52

Anthony, hard T.

Abigail47 · 07/08/2024 17:53

I think Antony is cool and it is a correct spelling too. It's how they spell it in other countries

mynameiscalypso · 07/08/2024 17:54

I'm think An-TH-ony is a more American pronunciation than An -T -hony which tends to be the UK version

Waterboatlass · 07/08/2024 17:55

Anthony, hard t, but I think would be happy to accept hearing the occasional th rather than correcting it (unless People you see regularly) as it sounds nice too and isn't that common anywhere I've lived. Lovely choice!

Abigail47 · 07/08/2024 18:00

I like Antonio too!

SwedishEdith · 07/08/2024 18:07

Spelt th and pronounced with a hard t.

SwedishEdith · 07/08/2024 18:08

Maybe use just t if you definitely wanted him to be Tony.

Barleysugar86 · 07/08/2024 18:09

Anthony - Ant-tony is the nicest/ easiest pronunciation I think although I like both ways.

Thelondonone · 07/08/2024 18:09

Anthony in the north is pronounced th not hard t. How do you want it pronounced -spell it that way?

CocoDolphin · 07/08/2024 18:14

Anthony, with hard T. Family name so one I’m sentimentally partial to!

moonshinepoursthroughmywindow · 07/08/2024 18:27

I would spell it with a TH but pronounce it with a T. I think it's only pronounced with a TH in America.

I would spell it with a TH but pronounce it with a T. I think it's only pronounced with a TH in America.

Aussie's pronounce the 'th', as well.

Raasclaat · 07/08/2024 18:44

Antonio

TheRestIsEntertainment · 07/08/2024 18:46

I prefer Antony and the hard T sound. With Anthony I naturally always want to pronounce it 'th' so suspect I get it wrong a lot.
