Do you prefer having just one nickname or do you enjoy having a diverse collection of nicknames?

I suppose it depends. I have four nn's with different groups of people and some aren't related to my name at all.

Ask my dog, he has about 20 and answers to most of them Grin

I'd pick a name that has lots of possibilities because I hate my full name but like my shortened version (eg debbie/Deborah) - I'd not call it a nickname name them. I'd like my child to see what be the feel suits them so Elizabeth / Alexander/ Joanne/Joeseph I think are great for this

My kids have about 45 interchangeable nick names.

KirstenBlest · 01/08/2024 10:33

I don't think they're needed at all.
Pick one if choosing a name like Elizabeth or Alexander.
If you don't like the diminutive. I'd recommend using the name as a middle name not a first name.

I think no limit. Nicknames are supposed to be organic, you can have one with a group of friends based on a shared experience that literally no one else in your life uses. I have several. My mum calls me something different to my husband, and nearly all of my friends have something else they call me. My name is very bog standard so I think people like to find a way to differentiate it.

My son has several that we call him at home, and I just found out nursery call him a couple as well which I think is so cute. So the more the merrier as far as I'm concerned.

I agree there is no limit.

I've had several nicknames over the years from various friends and family. I can think of four that are based on my name (not traditional shortenings) but also four that have nothing at all to do with my name.

In most cases only one person ever called me the nickname.

I agree with @reabies and @Fifthtimelucky .

I have loads for my son 😂😂 some really weird and random. I mean, who calls a kid Moomin Scroomin? Me!

chichiwaaa · 02/08/2024 20:00

I have loads of nicknames that aren't at all connected to my actual name. They're names that have been brought about through situations / events within my friendships. I like it as it feels really personal!
