Hi there,

Needing some help with boys names.

We are having our first baby in December, we are both Christians and love names with Biblical meanings.

We love:

Elijah
Zaccariah
Thomas (more so me)

Our son's second name will be Johnston.

Thanks so much! :)

Also look at lists of Patron Saint names, and their stories.

Firsttimebabymummy · 30/07/2024 16:59

I like Elijah Thomas if you've not picked a middle name yet.

Violet17 · 30/07/2024 17:28

Elijah Thomas goes well

Or

Jonathan means gift of God
Gabriel means God is my strength
Simon means listening or hearing
Lemuel means devoted to God
Isaiah means Salvation of the Lord

Gidion

All of my favourite boy names were Bibical.

Current favourites:
Silas
Jesse
Elias
Malachi
Isaac
Joel

I did like Elijah when I was pregnant but my husband didn't like the nickname Eli so make sure you're happy with any nicknames he may get.

Moreteaandchocolate · 30/07/2024 18:05

Elijah or Zachariah Thomas are really nice - I love Eli or Zac for short.

Thomas is also one of my favourite names, and not so commonly used any more. Thomas Elijah would be great.

I also love Isaac, as another option.

BoleynMemories13 · 30/07/2024 18:52

I much prefer Thomas to your other two options.

I prefer Zachary to Zaccariah, which feels too much of a mouthful to me. Elijah is quite a mouthful too, I prefer the simplicity of Eli.

Have you considered Isaac?

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 30/07/2024 18:59

Normally in a choice like this, I would always go for the perennial popular classic - Thomas, as classic names are great since they are least likely to give away age, background, nationality etc .

BUT in this case you have a pretty popular surname too and there is likely to be a fair few Tom Johnson’s about if that matters to you. So in your case I might be tempted to go for Zachariah or even simpler Zachary, as Zac Johnson sounds lovely too and is going to be less commonplace. Either way I’d make sure you like the shortenings of each name - as I think even Elijah (probably my least fave of the 3 personally) might get shortened to Eli.

Zaccariah looks wrong.
You can't go wrong with Thomas.

Thomas Johnston has shades of John Thomas which is cockney slang for a penis.

If you like Biblical names, there are so many others. How about archangel Michael or Gabriel?

Elijah from me.
What about Caleb, that's a good ✝️ name

Nicebloomers · 30/07/2024 21:06

Gabriel, Josiah and Emmanuel are great biblical names.

Daisybuttercup12345 · 30/07/2024 21:12

Matthew
Christopher
Noel
Peter
David
John
Isaac
Isiah
Noah
Simon
Daniel

17caterpillars1mouse · 30/07/2024 21:17

Elijah - I like Elijah but know quite a few. I prefer Elias as its a bit more uncommon and I like the ias ending

Zaccariah - not a huge fan, but am really fobd of Zachary

Thomas (more so me) - its nice enough. I prefer as a middle name

Have you considered

Onelittlebluefish · 31/07/2024 19:01

Another vote for Thomas. With your surname, wee TJ is very cute! I have a 2 yr old Thomas so I’m biased, but we’ve had lots of compliments on the name.

BetteLaSwet · 01/08/2024 16:44

Sorry OP, also goes to John Thomas for me!

I like Matthew and Nathan.

JimNast · 01/08/2024 17:05

Tom Johnston doesn't flow well IMO
