Hello!
Would love to know others thoughts on Arlen for a boys name?
We have a little girl Aria and quite like that it's similar and we both love the Arlen name.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

If you love it, then use it. I'm not keen on it or Aria, but they are OK, just not my taste. My first thought was that Arlo is very popular.

MaltipooMama · 30/07/2024 10:32

I've never heard it before, it's very unique! I love the name Aria and it was on my list for a girl, I probably don't feel quite the same about Arlen but agree with the previous poster to absolutely use it if you love it, people are always going to have different opinions on every name!

sounds like Alan said with a weird accent?!

Pocketfullofdogtreats · 30/07/2024 10:46

Will it be misheard as Harlen? But I prefer Arlen. I've never heard it before and not really my taste but it's growing on me.

GoldenPombear · 30/07/2024 10:46

Sounds like 'our Len'

Turophilic · 30/07/2024 10:47

It makes me think of a dairy, but if you like it, go for it. The world would be dull if we all liked the same things.

Sounds like a Yorkshireman trying to say Harlen Coben….but I quite like the name myself! Go for it!

IrisDenver · 30/07/2024 10:50

Depending on how it's said and how the person's hearing is it might be misheard as Alan.

Pumpkindoodles · 30/07/2024 10:51

I don’t mind it but think it’ll be misheard a lot as our len, harlen/m, Alan, arlo, arwen…
but that can happen with a lot of names so I wouldn’t rule it out based on that, just something to consider

MumChp · 30/07/2024 10:52

He will have to explain his name a lot.

SallyWD · 30/07/2024 11:02

I don't hate it but don't particularly like it either. It's not a name I've heard of. It sounds Scandinavian to me. However, if you love it then go for it. I've heard plenty of worse names!

JimNast · 30/07/2024 11:02

Is it the masculine version of Arlene? Arlene is nice for a girl.

Arlen is great. I know of one and he is a positive person.

Do you like Garnet or Onyx?

Kitkat1523 · 30/07/2024 17:50

Sounds like Alan ….I wouldn’t do it

Yes, I can hear Janet Street Porter’s voice…

APurpleSquirrel · 30/07/2024 18:59

There is an Arlen at my DCs school - no problem with the name; it's easy to spell, everyone can say it.
Perfectly good name.
I have an Arya so love that!
Only thing I'd say is they'd have the same initials which may cause confusion for mail etc; but that's not such a big issue anymore.

RogueFemale · 30/07/2024 20:34

I think it's awful, sorry.

CaptainCabinets · 30/07/2024 20:36

Sounds like a yoghurt.

VenusClapTrap · 30/07/2024 22:13

Too close to Alan
