I know it's not the same but it reminds me of Edgar Allen Poe. I like the nameSmile

Scissor · 29/07/2024 21:44

Really pretty, a lovely name.
Sure some nicknames will be posted soon but nicknames tend to work best when they fit the actual child you have in front of you.
There's loads of options.

Beautiful

Zampa · 29/07/2024 21:47

I have a Leonore and she was mainly called Leo, until she started school with a Leo and now she doesn't want a boys' name.

She doesn't mind Nornor, Norster, Neenor or Noodle!

ghouliee · 29/07/2024 21:48

I only ask about nicknames because I'm not too keen on Nora or Lenny. Quite like the idea of Leo for a girl but obviously it's a very popular boys' name at the moment..

@Zampa Leonore is beautiful too!

Very pretty. Lots of shortening potential. See what sticks when she’s born.

@Zampa Leonore is beautiful too!

She's named after the heroine in Fidelio, which makes us sound like intellectuals, but we're not!

if I had a baby called Leonora I’d probably shorten to ‘Le-le’ on instinct. I like Nora though.

PerkyMintDeer · 29/07/2024 21:53

I LOVE it. It's very gothic heroine.

The one I know pronounces it Lay-oh-nora and her nickname is Leo pronounced Layo.

JimNast · 29/07/2024 22:06

Leo for a girl is dreadful. Leonie is OK.

Dartmoorcheffy · 29/07/2024 22:07

I think lennie sounds great as a girls name

ladygindiva · 29/07/2024 22:18

I had an auntie Nora who's nickname was Noni ( know knee) which I think is really cute. I don't know if that's a thing or was just her.

HeySummerWhereAreYou · 29/07/2024 22:19

Not a fan. Sounds a bit like a detergent to me. 😬

PetulantPenguin · 29/07/2024 22:20

Love it. Leonie was on my list but I think Lenora is better

TowerStork · 29/07/2024 22:20

I know someone whose daughter has this name and they sometimes shorten it to Lennie. But the full name is lovely and they mostly use that

These days "Noni" is another word for Vagina, sorry! 😳I'm a lecturer and it's what I hear my students saying a lot.

For the love of God OP please don't nn her Noni!

Leonora is gorgeous! How about Lea as a nn?

ZittiEBuoni · 29/07/2024 23:44

I absolutely love it and wish I could have overruled DH and had it for DD2. Had to compromise with something similar, but in my head she's a real Leonora.

theduchessofspork · 29/07/2024 23:54

I like it, the one I knew was Tibby when little, usually Leo now.

Awwww my 73 year old mum is Lenore and my nana used to call her Neenor. Love that the same type of nicknames are still going strong!

Treesnbirds · 30/07/2024 09:48

I love the nn Leo for a girl! You'll find your own nicknames emerge anyway.

🤣🤣🤣 thank goodness auntie noni passed away before this was a thing, I withdraw my suggestion 🤣🤣🤣🤣

I feel the same about Great Aunt Fanny and Uncle Dick who was the proud owner of the largest cock in the village but unpopular as it used to wake every one up at the crack of dawn and beat all the other cocks in fights!

It's sad though because Noni actually is a sweet name (and I taught a little Noni-Rose about 15 years back, poor kid).

Luluem · 30/07/2024 10:38

I wanted Leonora for this pregnancy but husband vetoed, I think it’s a lovely name! With nn I was thinking Leah which obviously goes against what others have posted here, but that’s the one that came to my mind.
