38 weeks & Still No Name :(

Hi

As the title suggests I'm 2 weeks away from my due date of my first child, a girl. Dad isn't involved and have a small network so I haven't really had many people to have normal discussions like names etc with.

I have a couple of suggestions but haven't got anything I can nail down yet and was wondering if people could help me with some please? I really like more modern, abit out there (though these are more common atm) names.

Sorry should of mentioned. My top 3 at the moment are...

Very open to people's preferences on these 3 and also suggestions. Thanks to anyone in advance :)

No name suggestions but reassuring words that it doesn’t matter.

I had a shortlist of three for each of mine and both of them ended up with new names a week later because the chosen ones didn’t seem right.

It’s good to try names out when they’re here and see how they feel.

BluesandClues · 28/07/2024 18:21

Oh they’re lovely names!

I do like Nova, how about Aster or Stella?

I know someone who has a baby girl with the name Noa.

Cosima

vtisailor · 28/07/2024 19:21

All beautiful names! I’ve put them in the order I would choose but really difficult to do this as they’re all so lovely.

what is your surname?

  • Skylar
  • Autumn
  • Nova
MamaSleep · 28/07/2024 19:22

Love Autumn!

we met a Byrdie (birdy) recently and I absolutely loved it. It really suited her.

I agree with others. Have a list and then try out the names when she gets here. One will fit.

good luck.

dizzydizzydizzy · 28/07/2024 19:29

Even I like Skylar and I usually only like traditional names like Elizabeth.

LionessWithPride · 28/07/2024 19:55

I had Luna and Isla on my list but wasn't drawn to those like I was the 3 I've mentioned. Willow I love but can't have due to personal reasons. I do like Meadow, Eden & River, though I have been seeing alot of boys named river recently.

I'm really hoping to have Hope as a middle name as it sort of symbolises my journey to get this far in both life struggles and fertility. So it's also trying to find something that is nicely paired with that.

My surname is Mcrae if that is any help x

Thanks for adding the surname and middle (I love Hope - and would use it as a first name too). All of your choices go really well with your middle-last combo, but I think Skylar is my favourite.

This is a brain dump of possible first names not already mentioned (I think), just in case something appeals:

Afton
Arden
Avalon
Briar
Clover
Eira
Esme
Geneva
Ginevra
Ione (EYE-o-nee - Greek root meaning violet)
Jessamyn
Mariam/Myriem
Naomi
Nava (means "beautiful" in Hebrew)
Neva (like the river)
Oona
Reva/Reeva/Riva
Severn (OK, another river)
Sunniva
Teagan/Tegan
Zoia/Zoya

KnitAndKnackered · 28/07/2024 21:52

Autumn is beautiful! (Though I am biased as I chose it for my DD😁)

Since we seem to have fairly similar taste, do you like...
Posy
Lavender - really tried for this but DH said no
Sage
Aster
Lilac
Marina
Garnet
Sylvie
Celeste
Cecily
Paisley
Lyric
Fable
Clover
Fawn
Dove
Birdie

KateJ521 · 28/07/2024 21:58

Autumn is beautiful

How about Astrid or Octavia

wlv12 · 28/07/2024 22:00

I really love Nova Hope McRae 🥰

other names:

Lyra
Gaia
Luna
Etta

PruneInTheNest · 28/07/2024 22:01

LOVE the name Autumn, and massively massively dislike the name Skylar/Skyla (much prefer Sky)

I also love
Primrose
Sunday
marigold (nickname goldie)
Lilac
Posy

FloatingWoman · 28/07/2024 22:02

How about Hope as a first name? It’s unusual and sparky, I love it! And everyone will know how to spell/say it. Hope Mcrae sounds gorgeous!

villamariavintrapp · 28/07/2024 22:12

I wouldn't use Nova with Hope. It sounds like never hope, or no hope..

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 28/07/2024 22:26

If you like earthy/natural, uncommon names then I love Gaia (Ancient Greek Mother Goddess /personification of the Earth), I think it’s elegant sounding, simple yet rarely used in the UK (its more popular in other countries).Gaia Hope sounds lovely.

Another underused alternative might be Cassia - again like Gaia it has both a natural theme and Classical origins as it’s both the name of a flowering tree (you can get a type of cinnamon from the bark) but also an Ancient Roman name.
