What do you think of the below names and what similar names would you suggest?

Ramona
Jemima
Paloma
Beatrix
Kassia
Xanthe (zan-thee)
Ianthe (eye-an-thee)
Guinevere (probably not brave enough!)

I wouldn’t say Guinevere was a brave name to use. I’ve just been on a Sporcle quiz of the top 5000 names and Isis is on there. Granted I don’t know it rates but someone has still used it. Therefore I think Guinevere should be more than okay.

Based on the names you’ve listed you may also like.
Daphne.
Felicity
Vanessa
Saskia
Anastasia.
Gwendolyn
Eunice.
Cynthia
Natalia.
Alexia.
Eleanor

Ramona - nn Ram, so no
Jemima - love
Paloma - nice
Beatrix - nice. Beatrice is even nicer.
Kassia - yes if spelt Cassia which I love
Xanthe - nice
Ianthe - nice

Guinevere - nice

Just to add, the last three names will be frequently misspelt.

Firsttimebabymummy · 23/07/2024 21:44

Ramona- as above, would be Ram so no.
Jemima- love this.
Paloma- I think it sounds dated personally although it is nice. Tarnished for me as the 2 I've known haven't been nice people.
Beatrix- I prefer Beatrice, I think it looks nicer on paper.
Kassia- nice but prefer the others.. would be spelt Cassia?
Xanthe (zan-thee)- nope. Would be annoying correcting people
Ianthe (eye-an-thee) -as above and doesnt look feminine to me.. i see Ian.
Guinevere (probably not brave enough!)- I'd say this is a normal name so you wouldn't need to be brave! Also love.

My favourites in order are Jemima, Guinevere, Beatrice.

Suggestions
Anastasia, Alexandra, Annaliese, Seraphina, Susannah, Natasha, Elizabeth, Antonia, Verity

Last 4 are gorgeous, especially romantic Guinevere (although I would definitely spell Cassia like the spice/Ancient Roman classical name and personally slightly prefer the “ee-an-thee” pronunciation of Ianthe too).

The others are also pleasant enough - only one I dislike is Ramona, as the “moan” sound puts me off. Similar literary Romola is nicer.

Other suggestions for strong names in a similar vein - Claudia, Antonia, Isolde, Corisande.

Not Ramona (moaner)

YourOpinionIsWrong · 24/07/2024 11:17

Love Ramona and Ianthe the most.

Jemima has unpleasant racist connotations for a large swathe of English speaking people (n. American continent).

QuantumPanic · 24/07/2024 17:46

I like Ramona. The most obvious NN would be Mona, but it's not a given that people will shorten the name!
