I had my heart set on two names, neither of which my DH liked or would come around too in any way.

my girl name is Edie

Ive been head over heels in love with it for years and my boy name is Ozzie

ended up having 2 girls Indie & Orla

I’m currently pregnant and can’t use Tarn for my son. Gutted as we’re fairly limited for names too. I dated a Tarn a decade ago and still have mutual friends/our paths could still cross. Just figured it’d be too weird because the name is so uncommon. Atm I’m trying to make myself hate it!

TheFormidableMrsC · 08/07/2024 20:22

Niamh. I wanted that name so much for my daughter but it just didn't suit her. I can't explain it, it just didn't work. My second child was a boy so it'll be consigned to the one that got away!

PurBal · 08/07/2024 20:24

Laurence nn Laurie. DH didn’t like it enough. Definitely the one that got away.

I’m also pretty religious and DH is an atheist.
But if he’d been game: Benedict Augustine for a boy and Caritas for a girl.

CaptainCabinets · 08/07/2024 20:27

Alice - DP has vetoed as it’s his ex’s name 😂

Daisy - it rhymes with our surname.

Arthur - it’s my close friend’s little boy’s name.

ohfourfoxache · 08/07/2024 20:30

Persephone

Love it but dh hated it

Also it probably wouldn’t have suited either of my 2 DSs….🤣

PivotPivotmakingmargaritas · 08/07/2024 20:31

Madeleine-nn Maddie I wish I fought harder for it but ex DP didn’t like it … he wanted Madison so we took both names off the table

Highonthehillsisalonelygoatherd · 08/07/2024 20:46

Elijah. Such a lovely name but dc5 was a girl so got to use another lovely biblical name instead.

46mumof6 · 08/07/2024 20:52

Phoebe DP vetoed it

Now I'm older I wish I had used Clementine and Calliope

embarrassedimaprat · 08/07/2024 20:52

I wish I could have another and call her Jocelyn, joss for short. I wanted to call my son this if he'd been a girl.

CoffeeChocolateWine · 08/07/2024 21:03

I always dreamed of having a son and had the name Luke picked out from a relatively young age. I just loved the name and still do.

My first DC was a boy but I married someone whose surname sounds daft with Luke. I just couldn't move past it. It sounded stupid and was difficult to say. It just wasn't meant to be.

Funnily enough, my MIL told me that she had wanted to use the name Luke too but ruled it out for the exact same reason.

Allnewtometoo · 08/07/2024 21:05

Clementine. Didn't have a girl.

Odin. Lysander. Sebastian.. Exh said no.

Ivyrosecrayon · 08/07/2024 21:05

Psyche and Myrtle

Absolutely no one likes Myrtle... and it's been completely ruined by fkn Harry Potter.. but it's been my favourite girls name since I was a child. My DH point blank said no.

Psyche we both actually loved. But honestly we aren't posh enough to pull that off.. She'd be in a state school getting bullied and called 'Psycho' all day long.

Clueless2024 · 08/07/2024 21:06

Hero

My fave character much ado about nothing

BingoMarieHeeler · 08/07/2024 21:08

Adelaide (by the time I had a girl I had 2 nieces with very similar names)

Tamar for either sex - i think it is usually for girls but the first one i knew was a boy - bit left fields for us as zero Cornish connections

OMGsamesame · 08/07/2024 21:09

Alastair

Cardiganwearer · 08/07/2024 21:09

I really wanted Xanthe but it was too out there. I still love it but her actual name probably suits her better and is not confusing for spelling or pronunciation.

MotherOfCatBoy · 08/07/2024 21:12

Rose, Grace, or Cecelia. Only had one child and he was a boy, so…

Worldgonecrazy · 08/07/2024 21:14

Myfanwy- love the name but think it too open to bullying.

Enko · 08/07/2024 21:14

Both dh and I love Flora but surname is similar.

I love Regitze for a girl but in the UK that's never going to happen.

shellyleppard · 08/07/2024 21:15

Daisy joan..... after my great grandmother and my mother in law 😍

DistressedDamson · 08/07/2024 21:17

I really really wanted to call my son Sylvan. But my partner didn’t like it and convinced me it was pregnancy hormones. However, a few years later and I still love it and still regret it. (But I also do love the name we did choose😊)

Pearl

Tabitha

Frederick

Mumofgirls2017 · 08/07/2024 22:23

My grandmothers name Minnie. Never met her and always told I was image of! Vetoes straight off incl middles!

Matilda. Florence. Daisy. Clementine. Not had boys so not sure but pretty sure he’d veto Henry, Frederick, Edward, Leonard… 😭

Wrongsideofpennines · 08/07/2024 22:27

Avery. It's just perfect for a boy or a girl, simple to say and spell, in fashion with the 'e' sound at the end but not common. Just brilliant.

Until you split it up and see it written as 'A Very' followed by our adjective surname (think Smiley/Lively/Swift etc) and then it is just ridiculous. There were a fair few others we couldn't use because of our surname but I was the most gutted about this one.
