A name you wish you could have used

I had my heart set on two names, neither of which my DH liked or would come around too in any way.

my girl name is Edie

Ive been head over heels in love with it for years and my boy name is Ozzie

ended up having 2 girls Indie & Orla

I have two beautiful sons with names I love though.
I wanted loads of kids 😂

I have so many children I didn’t get to name. I guess my taste is unusual names - that doesn’t mean weird or wacky ones, just fully legitimate names, that are given infrequently. To me the purpose of a name is to identify the person, and if it is given to hundreds or thousands of other children that year it is failing in its basic function.

Aurora. I was going to use it as a middle name but went with my gran's name instead which is also very pretty. DD is gutted she didn't get Aurora. It combines really well with her first name.

I've always loved the name Sebastian. It was vetoed by my husband but I was hoping to convince him to agree it as a middle name.

We had two girls.

A name I would have liked to use for one of them is Irene, but I only like that name when pronounced with three syllables and I know it would have annoyed me enormously every time anyone pronounced it with two.

I unfortunately had a loss a couple of weeks ago
If it was a boy he would have been Asher
If it was a girl she would have been Sienna
Maybe I'll use them one day!

I'd have liked Jacob but there's already a Jake in the immediate family.

I'd have loved Genevieve but DH hates it.

Back before His Dark Materials was as well known I read it and loved the name Lyra but now I think it's too well known as the character from the book.

Anntoinette and Maggie, Dexter for a boy.

I love Jesse for a boy but was worried about him getting teased.

Lydia. Was my 2nd favourite girls name and I only had one girl!

@Highonthehillsisalonelygoatherd Elijah for me too! DH wasn’t keen and DS really suits the name we gave him but … I will always feel a wee bit sad that I didn’t get to use it.

Skylar for a girl with nn Sky. Still love it.
but internet forums told me it was too Chavvy & awful.

I just couldn't get DH on board.

DD2’s name has been mentioned a couple of times.

I didn’t have a DD3 but love Aurora n Rory, neither did I have Jonathan!

I liked Matthew for a boy. DH didn't hate it but didn't like the short form Matt at the time, and I passionately believe that you shouldn't give a child a name if you dislike the most obvious short form, because the chances are they will want to be known by it at some stage. I now have two adult DSs, neither of whom is called Matthew. DH has since made a good friend called Matt and I think he would be more receptive to it now, but it's nearly 30 years too late!

Leighton for a boy. Dh hated it and we had two girls anyway.

@SemperIdem They would struggle with and somehow manage to mangle the Welsh double F. My husband’s family never cease to confound me.

Carmen, Charlotte, Cassandra and Catriona. I now see an emerging theme here 😄 Both my daughter’s names begin with an L.

Clara - horrible in our accent

Holly or Molly - couldn't picture it on an adult

Elizabeth- I hate 'Lizzie' or anything with a hard 'z' sound.

I’d have loved a Julie or a Juliet but it really doesn’t work with our surname so have had to reluctantly let it go. I also love the name William but it’s now my nephew’s name (and suits him perfectly, so I’m glad it’s his even if I can’t use it!).
