I had my heart set on two names, neither of which my DH liked or would come around too in any way.

my girl name is Edie

Ive been head over heels in love with it for years and my boy name is Ozzie

ended up having 2 girls Indie & Orla

Dh vetoed all my more ‘unusual choices’ as he’s very much a top 10 name list kid of man (which is fine but at odds with me) it’s a miracle we have two children with names lol

For girls I loved:
Marigold
Primrose
Sunday
Cordelia
Calliope
Joanie

boys:
Lysander
Stellan
Lucian
Osian

Quinn (for a girl)

YouBelongWithMe · 08/07/2024 22:42

I love Nina and am sad we didn't use it. Also wish we'd called our DC3 Lizzie - i think it suits her more than the name we gave her.

LionAndEmperor13 · 08/07/2024 22:45

Axel
Loved it but too out there.

LettuceTruss · 08/07/2024 22:47

@BingoMarieHeeler Tamar is a Hebrew girl’s name. It means date palm. Pronounced differently from the river - it has a short A.

Mine were Ekaterinburg and Yael.

LettuceTruss · 08/07/2024 22:48

FFS Ekaterina!

OVienna · 08/07/2024 22:49

Clementine or Cecily

I know an indie and orla sibling pair!

Jessieshome · 08/07/2024 22:53

Oh so many...

Clara
Rosie
Primrose
Janey
Juliette
Susie/Suzanne
Phoebe
Mariette....I could have named a thousand girls! (I had 2 boys)

The only boy name that got away was Anton.

FFS Ekaterina!

I thought Ekaterinburg was a bit bonkers even for Mumsnet! 🤣

Love Yael.

I wish I could have another and call her Jocelyn, joss for short. I wanted to call my son this if he'd been a girl.

It’s also a boys name.

SleepingStandingUp · 08/07/2024 23:00

Zachariah. Shortening was close to possible shortening of close relative and their Mom talked me out of it. Not over it. DS is in class now with a Zachariah so I guess it's for the best 😭😭
Balthazar, I figured we were too WC to pull it off.
Didn't have girls so all my names. Persephone, was worried about the local accent anyway. Ariella.

Shangrilalala · 08/07/2024 23:01

Steffan

Angharad

we have enough difficulty with our inlaws pronunciation of our chosen names. These would have been a stretch!

Ketzele · 08/07/2024 23:01

Dora. I have wanted to use this name for decades, then couldn't for obvious reasons. I also really like Rachel, but my nearest and dearest hated it.

My first child has a name that I like but don't love. Dp and I couldn't agree on a name and it was the only one on both our longlists.

Second child was adopted so came with her name.

Their names are nice but it's mildly annoying that I have two kids and didn't get to use any dream names!

Alastair

Mine as well, my Alastair became Nicholas

LimesOfBronze · 09/07/2024 10:43

Perdita. Beautiful name, awful meaning. My phone even wants to correct it to perdition!

ScruffMuffin · 09/07/2024 22:13

Sennen
Libby
Joel

Copperoliverbear · 09/07/2024 22:55

I love Edie. X

StampOnTheGround · 09/07/2024 22:59

I love the name River, but way too out there for me!

Steffan

Angharad

I understand the pronunciation challenge with Angharad but not Stefan?

SemperIdem · 09/07/2024 23:00

Jasper. Though might still use it in the future, if I have a boy.

HanaPales · 09/07/2024 23:10

Cassandra. I loved it, inspired by a favourite book character, but DH vetoed it on the basis that the greek character has a pretty tragic story. Funnily enough, I later found out that I have a great-great-great grandmother called Cassandra! If I’d known that when we were picking names I might have fought harder for it.

TeenLifeMum · 09/07/2024 23:17

Phoebe. I have 3 girls and this name definitely came up and we both loved it. We then picked Poppy Eve as our chosen name, until dd was born and it didn’t suit her at all. We gave her a different name, which we love but Phoebe dropped off the radar. I also love Betty so that’s my rabbit’s name… dh’s rabbit is called Batman 😂
I would like a cat and to call her Audrey (dh is unaware of this plan)

NotInvolved · 09/07/2024 23:20

Alexandra or Alexander. Both traditional names in my family for generations but used by other close relatives before I got chance.
Keir. After Hardie rather than Starmer (though of course KS is named after KH). Let's just say it wouldn't have gone down well with the in laws and I didn't want to use it so desperately that it would have been worth the grief.
