First name for baby with mn Joy

Joy is a non negotiable middle name for baby girl due soon - we absolutely can't decide on a first name and keep going back and forth. I won't give examples of what we like because basically we don't know what we like!

So if you were naming a baby girl right now and her middle name was to be Joy, what would you call her?

Looking for inspiration here haha thank you!

I think Joy goes with traditional and more modern names - it’s lovely - some suggestions (I’d avoid first babes with J though)

Naomi Joy
Margot Joy
Elizabeth Joy
Esther Joy
Mabel Joy
Isabel Joy
Maya Joy
Ella Joy
Scarlett Joy

I think Joy works with a lot of names, but I prefer the sound of a longer first name. I think I possibly would want to avoid other ‘word’ names, but that might just be a personal preference.

You should choose whatever first name you like the most and not worry about whether it goes with Joy. No one except new parents say peoples names out in full. As long as it doesn't sound silly together I really wouldn't worry about it.

Joy is a lovely name BTW

SleepingStandingUp · 08/07/2024 10:01

Agree with pp, don't worry about it going
You'll scream it at the top of your lungs when they're 14 and the music is too loud to be heard over and they've left a trail of debris in their wake. It otherwise it isn't massively used, and I think Joy would go with nearly anything

Athena Joy
Margaret Joy
Arabella Joy
Katherine Joy
Persephone Joy

If I had a baby right now, I'd call her Ariella

You just need more than one syllable and everything will go fine. Even J names are fine as middle names are said so rarely. I’d suggest

Anna Joy
Mabel Joy
Beatrice Joy
Josephine Joy
Alexandra Joy

Joy is a lovely middle name choice. I prefer the sound of names that end in “a” before it as a hard sound at the end of the first name doesn’t work with the “J” and a first name that ends in “y” sound doesn’t work with the “y” at the end of Joy to my ears. I’m really fussy about sounds and flow though!

Isabella Joy

Joy is a lovely name and quite easy to pair as a middle name as all the options people have suggested above show.

My friend has an Isabella Joy, which I think is gorgeous.

DramaAlpaca · 08/07/2024 12:49

Ha! Nice cross post with @Overtheatlantic there!

NuffSaidSam · 08/07/2024 12:56

Phoebe
Penelope
Elizabeth

But just really because I like those names and I think almost anything goes with Joy as a middle name.

I'd maybe be tempted to go for a J name and use JJ as a nickname.

Jessica Joy
Juno Joy

Were the two pp suggesting Serena Joy deliberately aiming for a Handmaid's Tale reference? She is not a namesake that I would choose for my own daughter.
