I absolutely love the name Alba for a girl but what goes with it? I like the sound of Alba-Jae but wondered if anyone has any other suggestions please

Are you looking for a double barrelled name or a first and middle name? I think if you are going to do double barrelled you need a short one syllable name like Jae. If you are looking for a middle name then you have a wider choice! Alba is lovely.

Firsttimebabymummy · 03/07/2024 13:32

I quite like Alba. I had a friend I would visit in Scotland called Alba-Jane and she was lovely. I believe Alba was short for something but can't remember what, I was very young.

Jae isn't to my taste but I do like AJ initials/nn.

Jessieshome · 03/07/2024 13:40

Alba means Scotland in Gaelic/Scottish. I think it's lovely. You could pick a Scottish middle name too like Isobel or Skye?

I think Alba Jane is lovely.

Alba Marie or Alba Louise?

Moreteaandchocolate · 03/07/2024 15:23

Alba is beautiful 😊 Do you like
Alba Fern
Alba Fleur
Alba June
Alba Rae
Alba Sage
Alba Skye
Alba Wren

deliwoman1 · 03/07/2024 15:38

It depends on your surname really. But unless you want the middle name to sound like it could be part of the first name, I'd go with something that has two or more syllables. e.g. Alba Maria. Alba Isobel, Alba Beatrix, etc.

RaraRachael · 03/07/2024 15:48

Alba is an awful name - why would you want to call your child after a political party.

RuthW · 03/07/2024 15:53

Alba is ok. Anything with a j reminds me of aubergine though. Sorry.

YouCanRingMyBellingham · 03/07/2024 15:53

Alba were a budget (shite) electronic brand.

It's also the name of a political party.

Perhaps you could have a sibling called Goodmans or Sinn Féin?

RaraRachael · 03/07/2024 15:54

I know an Alba Aila - neither of which I like, but as a combination??

People are called Isis and Israel ffs.

I know a couple of Albas OP, lovely name! I’m not a fan of Jae personally but Mae is nice!

KayEmAy · 03/07/2024 16:03

See it as a fine name, just not my style.

I actually really like Jae on it's own actually!

Lunabetty · 03/07/2024 16:07

I quite like Alba, not so keen on Alba-Jae though

TuckingFerrible · 03/07/2024 16:10

Albuquerque

OMGsamesame · 03/07/2024 16:14

Are you actually Scottish?

(The only Alba I know is a spaniel).

AudiobookListener · 03/07/2024 16:34

I'd prefer Alma to Alba. Alma Jane/Joy/Janice/Janet/Jo perhaps.

Language changes all the time, its not only a Political Party.

Alba is a unisex given name of Latin origin meaning "dawn". In Spanish and Italian the name means sunrise or "dawn". In Spanish and Italian speaking countries it is considered to be a female name. It can also be used as a Spanish surname, as in the actress Jessica Alba, or a title, as in the Spanish Dukedom of Alba.

Personally, not keen (hate the name Alma)

RaraRachael · 03/07/2024 16:53

I know know one Alma - a dreadful woman, so that's put me off the name for life!

Peacfairy · 03/07/2024 18:23

Wow thanks for the mixed response,
we both like the names Alba, Esme & Sunday, but Esmè is fairly popular nowadays.
not sure if I’m a fan any of the suggestions so far but please keep them coming, much appreciated.
Any suggestions for double barrel or middle name suggestions for Esme and Sunday too whilst we’re on the topic
our top 3 names are
Alba-Jae
Esmè-lily
Sunday (can’t think of any middle names for this one)

thank you in advance xxxx

Please don’t double barrel the first name. Just give her a middle name.

CosFuckThatGuy · 03/07/2024 20:47

The only Alba's I know are Spanish; it's not been a name used commonly in Scotland until pretty recently.

Jegersur · 03/07/2024 21:08

Anything but Esmè. The accent is completely incorrect and makes no sense. I like Alba.

Much prefer Alba from these.. with a middle name, not double barrelled.

Esme is way too popular now imo and I don't like Sunday as I'd hate to be called Sunday myself.

Alba is actually an Italian and Spanish name, meaning Dawn.

it depends on your heritage but people may ask you if your DD is from there on first sight, as it's a popular name there. It's a lovely classic name and gaining popularity.
