What do you think of Arwen for a little girl?

Due in just a few weeks and this is one name

I like it, but it's not traditional Welsh name, which upsets some Welsh people.

kiwiandcherries · 29/06/2024 20:01

I love it. Such a pretty name

UltramarineViolet · 29/06/2024 20:02

It's lovely

TeenLifeMum · 29/06/2024 20:02

I love it. I knew an Arwen and she was lovely.

Moreteaandchocolate · 29/06/2024 20:07

Yes, love it! I know a lovely little Arwen!

CollyBobble · 29/06/2024 20:12

I know an Arwen and her sister Elin. The names are lovely. They are both Welsh .

I’m Welsh how on earth is this name upsetting?

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 29/06/2024 23:09

Very pretty. I think it’s a Tolkien invention based on the Welsh name Anwen. But Arwen sounds so similar (rather than being an obvious “fantasy” name) that I think it’s perfectly useable imo.

EMJL1221 · 30/06/2024 07:36

Thank you! I'm really liking it more and more. OH is considering it so I'll take that as a bonus! 🤞🏼

It's nice but I prefer Anwen

Nice. I like Arwen

Arwen Faerie
Arwen Louella

I also like Elowen, Ellen, Elin, Aileen and Edwina

Nobody has said it's Welsh. It's from Lord of the Rings by JRR Tolkien.

EMJL1221 · 30/06/2024 18:13

My OH is a Lord of the Rings fan so I think that's why he's considering it. I personally have never seen any of it, and found the name elsewhere 😂

I do know quite a few Arwyn's, but they are male. That's prob why I prefer Anwen for a girl as it's more feminine to me.

EMJL1221 · 02/07/2024 19:15

@GoodVibesHere I used to look after a little Anwen, but she was often called Annie, which I'm not that keen on x

GogLais · 02/07/2024 19:27

Arwyn is a boy's name. The -wyn is masculine. Arwen is a girl's name, the -wen is feminine. Arwyn is Welsh, Arwen is from LotR, but it does get used in Wales. If it was good enough for Ffion Llywelyn...

Celynfour · 02/07/2024 19:32

I think it’s pretty but I also preferAnwen .

TheCultureHusks · 02/07/2024 19:34

Not keen really - it sounds very ‘parents play dungeons and dragons’ to me! Which I guess it is - a more modern made up name.

sparrowling · 02/07/2024 21:27

such a pretty sound but was made up by Tolkien based on existing welsh names which would put me off

17caterpillars1mouse · 03/07/2024 15:12

Lovely underused name. It's really nice, cute on a toddler but ages well. Go for it

EMJL1221 · 03/07/2024 16:45

@17caterpillars1mouse thank you! We're increasingly fond of it, and it works well with our sons name x
