Which boys name?

ByDreamyMintNewt · 29/06/2024 08:16

For baby #3. Middle name will be Edward.

My top 3 names at the moment are:
Leo - but is this a bit obvious for an August baby? And is it very popular?
Louis - DH not sure on this one but I like it.
Barnaby - to be known as Barney. DH thinks it sounds a bit 'wet'.

DH likes Harry, which is OK but our older son has an 'ie' ending name with a similar vibe. Or names like Forest or River which I'm not keen on. Our daughter has a flower name.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Lucas

You fine barnaby a bit wet but the others are all nice and I think your right about Leo being popular

Not keen on Forrest or river though.

What about
Liam
Caleb
Xander
Marco
Hadleigh
Cooper
Rhidian

Bigearringsbigsmile · 29/06/2024 08:20

Leo is a great name!
Not keen on louis and I agreexwithvyour dh about barney

PivotPivotmakingmargaritas · 29/06/2024 08:25

I genuinely didn’t get at first the link between Leo and an August baby so I personally I think you are overthinking it.

Eof your names I love Leo and Edward ( why not this as a first name)

Louis, Jasper, Lucas are everywhere - I’m a teacher so usually have a mix of Lewis and Louis everywhere…

Barnaby and Felix are very twee

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 29/06/2024 08:25

I love Louis but are you not using the ie ending the same as Harry (is your ds called Charlie I am wondering)

So Louis or Harry for me out of your list.

Oscar
Toby
Rafael
Otto

BingoMarieHeeler · 29/06/2024 08:29

I FAR prefer your ruled out names sadly!

Leo is nice but way too popular
Louis - not my fave and recent insta reel of king Louis enjoying watching women give birth hence women giving birth on their backs has really given me the ick
Barnaby - wet indeed, and if you oldest is a Freddie then that is too Flintstones

What about Kit, Oscar, Otis, Miles…? Boys names are so hard!

Edit - obviously your son isn’t Freddie if you’re considering Frederick 😄

Oh wow lots of suggestions and comments already - thank you all.
My eldest is indeed Charlie. I think Louis has a different feel to it so the 'ie' endings don't bother me. Harry is OK but don't love it. DH also likes Teddy (obviously wouldn't then use Edward as a middle name) but again I'm not sure, and I do know a lot of little Teddys already.

I like Oscar and Toby but can't use because of close family/friends.

I think Leo Edward is a lovely combo

Moreteaandchocolate · 29/06/2024 09:48

Leo Edward is a lovely name. I also really like Louis. Both going brilliantly with Charlie. I know a Charlie with siblings Alfie and Henry? Or do you like George?

Mumofgirls2017 · 29/06/2024 12:33

I love Leo. But it is popular. Love Harry too and think ok to have 2 with same ending. Also like River but if you don’t, it’s off the list. Suggestions

Leon
Luca
Rowan
Jasper
Miles
Rupert
Rex
Ralph
Tobias
Loki
Zachary
Kit

SonicTheHodgeheg · 29/06/2024 12:42

My August born is a Virgo so didn’t clock the Leo reasoning.

My son is best friends with a Louis so that name has positive vibes for me. I don’t like Barnaby at all.

As your dd has a flower name then a nature name would work but I’m not keen on Forrest which makes me think Gump and River seems to be everywhere. Bear isn’t to my taste either.

KirstenBlest · 29/06/2024 13:40

Leo - I know a few Leos. I never thought they might have been born on July or August
Louis - It's fine
Barnaby - doesn't strike me as being we. i know a couple of them. Nice name.

Harry - I know a Harry who has a brother called Charlie. I don't think they're Charles and Henry, I never asked.

Forest - Gump
River - wet

Sookafatwan · 29/06/2024 14:53

Barnaby is just ridiculous. Inspector Barnaby off Midsomer Murders.

Why is it ridiculous? It's an old name. Makes me think of Barnaby Rudge,

Thanks for all the suggestions.

I think it is probably between Leo and Louis. I think I'm put off by the popularity of Leo, but actually I don't know any little Leos but I do know of a couple of Louis. Only a few weeks to go. Might have to wait until he's here and have a look at him, but then what if I still can't decide?!

I love Louis pronounced Louie.

Leo is so common but still a lovely name. I called one of mine George which is so common but I rarely come into contact with any others so it's a non issue.

hastingsmax · 23/07/2024 12:07

I don't like Barnaby, I know one in my son's year and I honestly cringe when I hear it

Call him Bob?

Leo - incredibly popular where we are. There are 3 in DD's nursery room!
Louis - it's fine. Also super popular. Probably my favourite of your three.
Barnaby - also fine. It's a little twee for my liking, so I see where your DH is getting 'wet' from, though I wouldn't quite describe it that way.
Teddy - too cuddly (and also popular) for me.
Harry - a bit unimaginative, and of course there's Prince Harry... How about Hal? It's a bit cooler.

If you like Oscar, what about Otis? Similar vibes, I think.
Benedict has a bit more of an edge than Barnaby.
Alexander works with Charlie.
Reuben?
