FLOSSIE - help a girl out

I love the name flossie
It's sentimental as I was floss as a pet name as a child. (Yorkshire obviously)
I don't want to use Florence as we know many but I don't like nicknames as real names.
I know it's term of endearment for any little girl but I would love to make it more of an actual name.
I know flora is also an option but I can't help but think of cheap butter 😂

Flossie is a pet name for Florence. It was very common in Victorian times. I wouldn’t name her Flossie but it’s ok if Florence.

I know an actual flossie.

What's wrong either just using that?

Now I am wondering what the name means… I had a boyfriend from Yorkshire who called me that! 😁

Edit: quoted the wrong person, was meaning to quote the person who said it was a dogs’ name.

Frances. Please don't call her Flossie as a full name!

My 20 year old daughter is called Felicity (which I still adore - she also loves her name) and she was often called Flossy. Now she's older, and probably due to her playing a sport, that's been shortened to Floss (I guess because it's shorter so quicker when calling out to her in matches).

Springwatch123 · 30/06/2024 06:40

Felicity would be a good shout and is pretty. I like Flossie as a nn.

I'm a Felicity, Fliss to my friends or Flossy to my family x

Ahhh, I was friends with a Fliss at university. If you have a flowery surname, hello!

YorkshireIndie · 30/06/2024 07:34

My baby DD is called Felicity and gets called Flossie. She knows her name (I think) but gets called Flossie by everyone

mitogoshi · 30/06/2024 08:16

I know a flossie, she's Florence though

ImpunityJane · 30/06/2024 10:33

How about Floriane, which is very pretty? Otherwise Felicity, Florence, Flora, Frances are all good options.

greengreyblue · 30/06/2024 10:38

My sisters childhood pony was Flossie!

Flossie will be awful when she's an adult and working in a professional capacity or business environment.

Lovely nickname for a child.

This is why I wanted more of a “proper” name. We always said you have to remember your naming someone will grow up. Like people calling their baby’s bear. A poor 40 year old introducing himself as bear 😂

I do like fleur, my sister had it as an option for ones of her girls but hate it said in our accent. Makes a pretty name sound awful 😂

I agree op .I chose names making sure they could be prime minister/ marry a royal without sounding silly.😂🤣😂🤣Not that I wanted them to but you get the idea.
