We won't be finding out the sex, and already have an Ezra. Don't really want anything that's commonly used.

Boys names we like:

Rowan
Koa
Kobe
Albie (too popular)

Girls names me like:

Mabel (too popular?)
Callie
Melody
Nova
Indigo

Thank you so much!

Koa - no, too close to Koala bear and Kia the car.
Nova is nice though.

Mothership4two · 29/06/2024 02:58

I have always liked Rowan. Sorry I don't particularly like any of the girls names.

Theoldwoman · 29/06/2024 03:30

Rowan or Cali

Velicirapitor · 29/06/2024 03:35

i like Rowan and Melody.

Other names you could consider:

Leo
Jonah
Hector
Felix
Perry

Caitlin
Juniper
Lyra
Wilma
Saskia

Mothership4two · 29/06/2024 03:36

Leo and Lyra are attractive names

ktsch · 29/06/2024 04:04

If you don't want popular avoid Nova, just in the ward when I gave birth there were 4.
I think it's a name you don't think is popular as it's "newish" but it's very of the time.
Very much like Ottilie, our front runner for a girl. Never heard it used ever. Seen so many announcements recently of Ottilie

pambeesleyhalpert · 29/06/2024 04:51

Melody and Rowan. So many Mabel's where I live (SW)

twentysevendresses · 29/06/2024 05:13

Nova is Avon backwards. That alone puts me off...who wants to be a backward Avon seller? 😵‍💫

AdaColeman · 29/06/2024 10:29

Apparently Kobe is a diminutive of Jacob (Jakob) so has the same meaning.

Writerscompanion · 29/06/2024 10:52

I have a Mabel. It took forever to choose her name but we are both so happy with it. It is a name that was popular in the Middle Ages as well as the nineteenth century so isn't just faddish, and it means 'lovable'. I have only met one other after a year in baby groups and she's the only Mabel at nursery (London).

I actually know brothers called Ezra & Rowan, love these together.
I like Koa & Kobw but not sure about either of them with Ezra. Albie is nice but it is very popular.

Other suggestions - River, Sebastian, Jude, Saul, Rafe, Bodhi

Girls wise Mabel would be my favourite, or Indigo if using the nickname Indie.

Other suggestions - Pearl, Fleur, Iris, Maeve, Beatrix

Mabel is beautiful. I'm quite keen on the 'old lady' names for girls and think the fact they're coming into fashion again is lovely. Not sure on the others, they seem a bit too niche and Americanised in my opinion.
I'm sure whatever you pick though your child will love, it is your family nobody else's. X

What measurement are you using to gage popularity? Ezra is a lovely name but it’s been a very fast riser and it’s very popular - it’s a top 50 name. More common than Joseph, Benjamin or Daniel currently. Rowan is top 60 for a boy Mabel top 50 for a girl. So all of these will have many hundreds/thousands of babies named this each year.

The most unusual name on your list is actually Indigo which is just outside the top 500 for a girl.

If you are fine with top 50 names like Ezra, what about Rory or Luca. If you’d prefer less common, have a look outside the top 500 - Cassian, Amos, Harlan, Dean, Heath, Silas.

For a girl, less commonly used (outside top 500) - Cara, Ruth, Claudia, Morgan, Celeste, Mara.

FirstTimeMumma2021 · 30/06/2024 23:24

If you want something more unusual, I'd avoid Mabel as it seems to be massively growing in popularity, I know 4 who have been named that recently!
I also know of two Nova and one Callie from years ago

Sleepnplay · 01/07/2024 09:45

Rowan is very popular for a boy where we are, but I prefer it for a girl anyway and havent met any recently. That would be my girl pick.

WelshWannabe · 01/07/2024 09:51

I like Rowan and Callie or Mabel

I know a sibling set called Ezra and Elijah which I always thought sounded nice together.

I also like Caius for a boy.
