Fraser

Already have a little boy called Finley, unsure of the sex and probably won't be finding out but I'm convinced it will be a boy as DH's side of the family is very boy heavy. We both quite like Fraser but don't quite love it at the moment, any other suggestions? I don't like the traditional names such as Joseph, Joshua, William, Benjamin etc. I really struggled to pick Finley's name but as soon as we did we both absolutely loved it.

My little grandsons name, I love it and it's rare enough that he's the only one at nursery which is nice

DoYouSmokePaul · 27/06/2024 19:42

What about Calum/Callum, Ewan/Euan, Angus or other Scottish type names.

Barleysugar86 · 27/06/2024 19:44

It's a nice name but I'm not keen on having surnames as first names which this is to me, I think it can get a bit confusing especially if your surname isn't definitely a surname.

KirstenBlest · 27/06/2024 19:45

It's really nice @cococabana7

@User6761 , that's a good list. It's only the F & F puts me off Fraser.

I think Fraser is a cool name!

I didn't know that it is a surname, but I am not originally from the UK.
The name Fraser actually makes me think of the tv series "Frasier" (which I have never watched, but it's pretty famous), and in that show I think it's a first name.

Finley and Fraser is a good combination of names!

I have a Fletcher, which is a similar vibe to Fraser. I also have a nephew Fraser, it's a lovely name.

It is a common surname but it’s also common as a first name, especially in Scotland. I grew up in Aberdeenshire and there’s a town called Fraserburgh and a castle called Castle Fraser which is very cool.

Klippityklopp · 28/06/2024 21:31

It's a very common boys name up here in Scotland, I like it, goes well with Finley

SkaneTos · 28/06/2024 21:34

@DoYouSmokePaul
Thank you, very interesting!

And that is certainly a very cool castle!

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 28/06/2024 23:51

Fraser is gorgeous but personally I’m not keen on same initials for same sex siblings as families do still get the occasional letter with just Mr initial and surname. but a similar Scots surname style might be Brody/Brodie?

Or since Finley is surname style with the obvious nn of Finn, maybe something similar might be Bennett (Ben), Sullivan (Sully), Maxwell (Max) , Edison (Ed), Beckett (Beck), Callahan (Cal) etc?

mamacitas7 · 29/06/2024 08:23

Thanks all. I'm usually not a fan of the same initial first names either and it's definitely not intentional here but I'm liking it more and more! Thanks for all other suggestions too
