Middle name

We're 99% sure we're set on Etta for our little girl due in 5 weeks time, but we're a bit stuck for middle names!

The only family name we would possibly use is Ellen, my mums name, but I'm not keen on Etta Ellen.

Babies surname is quite long and starts with an L.

So far we've got

Etta Wren
Etta Iris

But neither feels right!
Suggestions welcome please 💜

Etta Nell

TheShellBeach · 27/06/2024 18:37

If you must have a middle name it should start with a consonant.

FloofPaws · 27/06/2024 18:42

It may be nice to have a long middle name as the name is short, Etta Victoria, Etta Georgina etc ?

stressedespresso · 27/06/2024 18:43

Etta is very nicknamey (too much so in my opinion but she’s not my child to name!). You need to go with a much stronger, longer middle name or else the two just blend into one

Fontainebleau007 · 27/06/2024 18:50

Etta Louise
Etta Skye
Etta Rose
Etta Mae
Etta Posey
Etta Victoria

Etta Kimberley
Etta Grace
Etta Jade

Lovely name!

If using a shorter middle name I would avoid anything ending with -a. But I think it's also nice with a longer, somewhat grand middle name, and with some of those I think ending in -a works nicely.

I would also make sure the middle name doesn't sound like a noun, as it will sound like ate a Rose (for example).

Etta Seren
Etta Margot
Etta Phoebe
Etta Frances

Etta Cecilia
Etta Anoushka
Etta Gabriella
Etta Ramona
Etta Beatrice
Etta Leonie
Etta Rosalind

Just guessing at surnames…

Etta Louise Longfellow

Etta Lilac Longfellow

Not sure if Lilac is used as a name but it fits with your “nature things as names” theme.

Etta Cassandra Ellen?
That way you use Ellen but have a longer middle name in front.

Others could be
Christine
Catherine
Delphine
Francine
Frances
Georgina
Harriet
Henrietta
Jackie
Jaqueline
Kadence
Marilyn
Naomi
Petunia
Penelope
Rachel

timoteigirl · 27/06/2024 20:17

It is rare to need too say the whole name. If you want such a trendy first name and have a long surname, would you like to balance it with a traditional middle name, a short name, another trendy very current name - any thoughts? Any name in the family?

pinkyredrose · 27/06/2024 20:25

You don't have to give a middle name.

EMJL · 27/06/2024 20:29

@pinkyredrose we'd quite like at least one, our son has two middle names!

I think a longer middle name would go best ( or 2 if that's what you like)

I don't think Ellen works well and personally wouldn't want E.E.L although I know some people don't care about initials.

I think Wren and and Iris don't go that well either sorry.

mathanxiety · 28/06/2024 15:18

Etta Alexandra
Etta Olivia
Etta Emilia
Etta Leonora
Etta Sophia
Etta Josephine
Etta Mariana

Etta Lee

For some reason one syllable ones seem best!

KirstenBlest · 28/06/2024 15:59

Etta Belle and Etta Rose sound painful
