My dp hates the name rene so the baby wont be shortened to that.I would shorten it to Ren or Nace i want the sound of the name to be Ren-nace the ace sounding like the ace of a card if that makes any sense.

is that even a real name?

pointydog · 09/04/2008 17:16

Since it's a made up name just spell it however you want

If you must, spell it Renaissance, and check that with a french person.

I believe that Renée and Renata have the same meaning.

The meaning is a little conversation-provoking!! Is there any story behind it??

MadameCh0let · 09/04/2008 17:19

Sorry, the rebirth of your relationship. Right I get it.

Blandmum · 09/04/2008 17:21

Dear god, not renee and renato, didn't we suffer enough in 1982?

barnstaple · 09/04/2008 17:26

Renaisse, looks interesting and people will say it properly.

girlfrommars · 09/04/2008 17:42

Renaissance means rebirth doesn't it?

'Anastasia' also means rebirth/resurrection.

'Aviva' is girls name meaning spring/renewal.

mankymummy · 09/04/2008 17:46

agree, Renaisse looks much nicer. Renase sounds like a nasal hair remover to me !

Disenchanted · 09/04/2008 17:47

What about AURORA

Gender: Feminine

Usage: Italian, Spanish, Romanian, Finnish, Roman Mythology

Pronounced: ow-RO-rah (Spanish), aw-ROR-a (English) [key]
Means "dawn" in Latin. Aurora was the Roman goddess of the morning.

so it would be a new day, a new start sort of thing?

LittleWonder · 09/04/2008 17:52

Eve would be better - Eve of a new thing, made up names are simply vile.

branflake81 · 09/04/2008 18:33

Or you could just call her Dawn?

MadameCh0let · 09/04/2008 19:37

Aurora/Rory for short is sooooo trendy in the US.

I agree, Dawn was incredibly passé 35 yrs ago, but a Dawn now might be quite refreshing. She would certainly be the only one in her class.

Alba is spanish for Dawn. Or is it Alva.......? No me acuerdo.

I love Eve. I guess Renaissance is just nmsaa as they say.

I was going to say, can you not find a name that means new beginning but is a name?

If no, and heart set on it I would go with Renaisse.

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 09/04/2008 21:14

If you MUST, Renaisse. If your mind can be changed, find an actual name that means new start or new beginning, and give her that.
Remember people will ask her where her unusual name came from, it might be a bit embarrassing for her growing up to explain that she's the product of her parents getting back together. Also, not wishing it on you whatsoever, but if you and OH split up, she's gonna feel even sillier.

ilovewashingnappies · 09/04/2008 21:24

I have an unusual name that my parents kind of made up. I'm in some ways proud to be different but it ANNOYS THE TITS off me all the time. Especially when I was at school.....

As a teenager I used to lie about what my name was. I enjoy being a teacher and being known as Miss.

My daughter is called EMily and when somebody said 'that's quite popular now-were you worried it was common' I was quite pleased....

ilovewashingnappies · 09/04/2008 21:26

Rina is the Italian....

Heated · 09/04/2008 21:28

Kat's got a really good point.

However, I'd spell it Renaisse, since more ppl will pn it the correct way then (although you still might get pn it Ren-ay) and it looks feminine.

Renaissance names are quite unusual anyway so if you wanted to go for one then maybe consider Raphaela, Cosima, Lorenza, Alessandra, Caterina, Francesca, Lucia, Nicolosa, Seren/a...

QuintessentialShadows · 09/04/2008 21:34

It sounds a little bit like an allergy medicine, or a hayfever spray. Or that hair regrowth shampoo, was it regaine? Reminds me about the Cleaneeze catalogue too.

Actually I just googled it. Renaisse is a review of Deviant Art (to my understanding), a surname of an artist, and also a company which makes silver jewellery with cubic zircona "gems".

If you are uncertain, google it and see what else your child will be sharing name with.

4kids · 09/04/2008 21:38

Thanx for your replies but the name to me actually sounds nice regardless of the meaning like i said my other kids have different names so i want to carry that on
Chardonnay
Jaeden
Paris
Ebony
Baylee

Dawn or sarah (no offence)
just doesnt go.
If we have a boy we will call him Kyrell Ellis & for a girl Renaisse Tahlia or however i choose to spell it.

Renate (prn re-nah-ta) is lovely IMO. It's a common name in Germany, for women of about 40-60, very unusual these days.

Anastasia is utterly gorgeous.

Don't do Renaisse. It really does sound a bit like an air freshener.
