I know someone who has just called their child Bathsheba!! I’ve never heard the name before, is it literally said Bath - Sheba? Not that I’d ever say it but I think it might be one of the ugliest sounding names I’ve ever heard!

It’s a biblical name, I quite like it. It was the name of I think my 5th great grandmother.

LadyKenya · 24/06/2024 22:06

A strong biblical woman. Look her up.

Arlanymor · 24/06/2024 22:08

Some people say Bath-sh-ba, some say Barth-Sheeba.

I’m not religious so I am familiar with it as it’s one of Thomas Hardy’s most famous female protagonists… Far From the Madding Crowd.

Santasbigredbobblehat · 24/06/2024 22:12

I like it. Better than blooming Eve or Lily.

ThePoshUns · 24/06/2024 22:17

I love it .
Bathsheba Everdene and Gabriel Oak.
Such a love story.

ThePoshUns · 24/06/2024 22:18

I'd say it Bath Shi ba

Pretty sure it’s the name of the demon in The Conjuring film 😬

Not me thinking you meant Tom Hardy the actor 🤦🏻‍♀️I got there in the end

I like it. Better than blooming Eve or Lily.

Or Olivia, Amelia/Amelie, Mia, Evie, Maisie all the other ‘popular’ ones that are starting to become boring IMO.

Mossyroller · 24/06/2024 22:38

I loved it my little black cat is called it!

Putting · 24/06/2024 22:40

I don’t like it, but that’s mainly because I can’t stand Far From The Madding Crowd

I’m not sure there are even any decent nicknames, are there?

Applepencilplant · 24/06/2024 22:40

Far From the Madding Crowd and the Bible.

Bold choice.
Bath for short.

CatrionaBalfour · 24/06/2024 22:43

I think it's a lovely name. Nice and strong.
Change from all the ditsy ones in fashion; Maisie, Daisy, Dottie, Lottie, Kitty, Poppy, Betsey etc

CatrionaBalfour · 24/06/2024 22:44

Shorten it to Sheba

Tigertigertigertiger · 24/06/2024 22:44

Wow that's bold and v cool

Makes me think of the cat food!

ErrolTheDragon · 24/06/2024 22:51

It's a nice sounding name, but it's known from a particularly sordid biblical story. Wiki has quite a good summary. (Mind you, it ought to put people off the name David more. Ugh)

Wonderful name and love story Bathsheba and Gabriel Oak. If I had ever had a daughter its the sort of name I’d have chosen.

bathshebaeverbusy · 24/06/2024 23:14

Ha! I love it. My very lovely blue Giant Orpington chicken was named Bathsheba and her sister was Hepzibah.

Zwicky · 24/06/2024 23:16

The only ones I “know” are the bible one and the paedophile teacher from Notes on a scandal. I love both stories but I don’t think I’d go there.

EnglishBluebell · 24/06/2024 23:23

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Good one, OP!
