What are your thoughts on the name Phoebe and Delilah?
Struggling to find a name I love. Have biblical boys names but also wanted a Spanish inspired name but can't seem to find anything perfect.
There is nothing really Spanish and Biblical.
A lot of the biblical names I have negative associations with, like Rebecca, Sara, Ruth, Bethany, Hannah etc as they were all names I grew up with.

Love Phoebe!!

Delilah - I only really like for the nn potential of Della / Lilah

AngelDelightButNotStrawberry · 21/06/2024 11:46

I really like Delilah. Phoebe feels so overused.

shoopshoopdedoo · 21/06/2024 13:07

I love Phoebe. Delilah is OK but I also can’t past the song. Plus, I’d rather be called Phoebe.

Vivi0 · 21/06/2024 13:09

I absolutely love Pheobe.

Firsttimebabymummy · 21/06/2024 14:26

I much prefer pheobe

Susanna? It’s Biblical but not as obvious as some. Ditto Julia and Claudia - both mentioned in the Bible but very briefly. All 3 are well used internationally too (especially the later 2 since they are Latin).

Ive never been keen on the sound of Phoebe (all those “ee’s”) and Delilah is quite trendy (plus most older people struggle to get past the Bible story imo).

DuchessOfSausage · 21/06/2024 18:05

Maria is about as biblical as you could get.
Magdalena
Susanna
Raquel
Sara
Noemi

I prefer Phoebe to Delilah .

I know a 12 year old Phoebe and a 4 year old Delilah. I think you would have less Phoebe's in the school year.

PartyBagQueen · 21/06/2024 23:01

Not Delila due to delulu.

Not keen on Phoebe as it's got the 2 eeeeee sound. Love Noemi Leah and Marie or Mary, nickname Mia.

SkaneTos · 22/06/2024 01:50

I think both Phoebe and Delilah are lovely names.

A previous poster mentioned the Tom Jones song "Delilah". I instead think about the song "Hey There Delilah", from 2006, by the band Plain White T's. Great song!

Other Biblical names
Salome
Deborah
Candace
Bathsheba

BoleynMemories13 · 23/06/2024 06:08

I was going to suggest Maria too for a Spanish and Biblical feel.

Otherwise, Phoebe is lovely. I'm less keen on Delilah, although it does have nice nickname potential.

DuchessOfSausage · 23/06/2024 10:33

Tamara - not from the Bible but Tamar is. Tamara Rojo is Spanish.

Dorcas or Talitha?

ButterflyWings13 · 23/06/2024 19:47

I love Delilah I like Phoebe as well but I know a few babies who have been called that lately

GummiBeari · 23/06/2024 19:49
