Just found out we are having a little boy. Already have a little girl called Maia. We had lots of girls names but boys are more tricky. So far we like:

Sami/Sam
Oscar/Oskar
Kai
Asher
Milo
Miles
Ezra
Jordi
Leo
Albi

Any opinions on these or other suggestions welcome!

Sami / Sam - I like both as a nickname but personally prefer a more formal name too. I love Samson and like Samuel. I think Sammy is a lovely nickname but prefer this spelling. I think the i makes it look feminine.

Oscar / Oscar - its a nice name, prefer Oscar spelling but I know so so many Oscar's. Especially those 5 and under.

Kai - I like the sound, but it's gone a bit celeb trendy, which puts me off. As a teenager I always said I'd have a boy valued Kye lol .

Asher - I like this and have only ever met one. I do wonder if its about to start climbing the charts as I'm hearing it mentioned more, but it's a nice name and fits I'm with other currently being used softer boys names

Milo - not a fan. It sounds like a dogs name to me, or I think of the tweenies

Miles - its growing on me. There is a Miles at a baby group I go to and its definitely a grower of a name.

Ezra - love. It was on our boys list. One of these reasons we didn't use it though is the its climbing the charts so quicker it will probably date

Jordi - too nicknamey and comes across as a bit girly sounding. Also a bit dated sounding to the 90s.

Leo - nice name. I know quite a few older Leo's 5+ years but no little ones

Albi - not a fan of the nane or the spelling. I know a few Albie's. It's just not my style at all

If I had to choose I would go with Sami or Asher. Ezra would be third place

Maia is a great name, and I like all the names on your list.
My favourites are

Maia and Sam
Maia and Oscar
Maia and Asher
Maia and Leo

Kai, Milo, and Miles are good names, but almost too similar to Maia, I think?

Whycantiwinmillionsandsquillions · 08/06/2024 23:03

I like Sam Oscar and Miles.
However I would rule Miles out as it’s too similar to your dd’s name for me.
I prefer Samuel to Sam though.
Milo says dog to me.
Ezra- no reminds me of George Ezra.
Jordi- reminds me of Geordie.
Asher- reminds me of a song.
Albi- I don’t like it. A bad character once had this name so my mind goes straight there.
Kai reminds me of Wayne Rooney’s child.
Leo is ok.

Ikeameatballs · 08/06/2024 23:06

Milo and Miles are too similar to your daughter’s name.

I don’t like Kai or Jordi.

All the others are great but I think Leo goes best with Maia.

I like all except for Kai and Jordi - it’s too similar to Geordie. Maybe go for Jordan and use Jordi as a nickname?

My favourites are Sam (Samuel on birth certificate), Oscar, Miles, Leo and Albie (but Albert on birth certificate),

Lifelikinotdothinki · 09/06/2024 04:34

Leo is gorgeous ❤️.

Newbornhaze · 09/06/2024 04:38

I like Sam or Ezra from your list.
How about Ellis?

FloofPaws · 09/06/2024 05:22

Not keen on Jordi or Kai

Another nice sounding short name is Asa (pronounced Ace - a )

ManilowBarry · 09/06/2024 06:04

Sami/Sam - no go Sami. Sam is nice.
Oscar/Oskar - no to Oskar. Oscar is ok
Kai - ruddy awful.
Asher - no. I know of a boy now a man with the surname Price and at school the children turned Asher Price into Asda Price!
Milo - nice
Miles - lovely.
Ezra - not keen
Jordi - no, it's awful
Leo - ok
Albi - no it's horrible.

Felix?

Sami/Sam - just go Samuel and shorten it naturally through the years.
Oscar/Oskar - go with which ever one of these is the "usual" spelling in your culture.
Kai - no hate it.
Asher - bit try hard
Milo - this is a dog name.
Miles - nice
Ezra - nice
Jordi - no. Try Jordan?
Leo - lovely
Albi - no. Go for Albert nn albi if you must but there are so many of these.

KirstenBlest · 09/06/2024 19:32

Sami/Sam - Sami's an Arabic name
Oscar/Oskar - Oscar is the usual UK spelling
Kai - not a favourite
Asher - not a favourite
Milo - milky drink
Miles- fine
Ezra - ok
Jordi - not sure
Leo - nice but very popular
Albi - dreadful

shoopshoopdedoo · 09/06/2024 20:16

I like Sam (short for Samuel), Oscar, Leo and Miles - but wouldn’t pair Miles with Maia.

Fontainebleau007 · 10/06/2024 10:58

Asher x

ladygindiva · 10/06/2024 11:01

I liked Milo until I saw your surname . If Milo doesn't work Oscar is my favourite.

ladygindiva · 10/06/2024 11:01

Just seen you have a Maia, definitely avoid Milo. Oscar easy winner for me.

SorcererGaheris · 10/06/2024 17:22

My favourites of those are Asher and Oscar. If an ‘e’ was tacked onto the end of Albi, then I’d really like that too; just personally not a fan of the ‘Albi’ spelling, prefer Albie.

Luminousalumnus · 10/06/2024 17:29

Ezra or Sam(uel)

kt8 · 10/06/2024 22:09

I had Joseph picked out for a boy but then we had a girl.
Still absolutely love the name.

BoleynMemories13 · 10/06/2024 22:23

I'm guessing you pronounce Maia as May-a? If My-a, you definitely can't have a Miles or Milo. They would sound ridiculous together. Personally I think Kai is too similar too if you say it as My-a, due to repeated 'eye' sounds.

I like Leo the best, followed by Oscar or Ezra.

Maiapapaya · 11/06/2024 10:49

@BoleynMemories13 Maia, Maya and Maja are all pronounced My-ah in the various cultures that they originate from.

I like Leo, Sam and Oscar best with Maia. Agree with pp that Milo/ Miles are a bit too similar.

I'm well aware of that, but I'm also aware that some people pronounce it May-ah. I was questioning how OP pronounces it as she didn't state in her opening post, and I'm assuming she surely can't be considered Miles or Milo if she has a My-ah already as they are ridiculously close in sound. So I'm guessing she pronounces it May-ah. Otherwise I'm advising her to stay well clear of Miles and Milo. That's all...
