What do you think of Judith? Could it make a comeback? What about Judy?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
RainyTulips · 08/06/2024 10:00

I really like it. One of my friends is a Judith - Jude to friends and Dith to family.

ImOddsAndEnds · 08/06/2024 10:02

Really lovely name.

LegoLady95 · 08/06/2024 10:08

I definitely think this era of names will come back, and loads of them are actually lovely:

Judith
Valerie
Pamela
Jean
Sandra

Etc.

Moreteaandchocolate · 08/06/2024 10:11

It still sounds a bit middle aged to me - but maybe you’ll be ahead of the curve and start a trend!

Elsbetka · 08/06/2024 10:14

Judith and Jude are lovely. I do know a mid-30s Judy and it works for her but generally I think of it as a 60s-70s name.

Similar vein for me are:

Ellen
Helena
Frances
Caroline
Lorna
Yvette

*Disclaimer: I have no rationale for this, don't @ me

Gorgonemilezola · 08/06/2024 10:15

Lovely name. Prefer Judith to Judy.

Maireas · 08/06/2024 10:16

It's a lovely name, a real classic.
As pp have said, you'll be ahead of the curve!
I like strong girls' names, rather than the usual Dottie, Lottie, Dolly, Minnie, Missy, Daisy etc.

MerryChristmasToYou · 08/06/2024 10:17

I don't like Jude for a girl. Judi/Judy is ok. Names with 'th' in them are currently popular.

Frankley · 08/06/2024 10:20

Judith is a lovely name. Due a come back.

WheelofCheeses · 08/06/2024 10:24

Not a fan, frumpy. Like Jude.

Wisterical · 08/06/2024 10:26

Judith is lovely, one of my favourite names.

2chocolateoranges · 08/06/2024 10:27

Too old fashioned, I’m not a fan of J names.

HailtotheBop · 08/06/2024 10:31

Beautiful name, though I'm biased as it's my Mum's name!

Soonenough · 08/06/2024 10:41

Juliette / Juliet for me

MerryChristmasToYou · 08/06/2024 10:44

@Soonenough , but that's a completely different name.

FredaFox · 08/06/2024 10:45

As a middle aged Judith who is called Jude by everyone I think it's a great name
The only downside if any is the drunken hey Jude's but honestly doesn't even bother me

Personally I rarely use Judith as it feels grown up and in my 40s I dont want to feel old 😂

JudithNotChalmers · 08/06/2024 10:46

I’m an old Judith, I don’t like it, or Judy, but most people now call me Jude which I do like.

I guess one benefit is that there are a few alternative / nicknames you can use if you / they want.

Luminousalumnus · 08/06/2024 10:53

Fabulous name

Kitkat1523 · 08/06/2024 11:00

I have known 3 Judith’s in my lifetime….I have loved them all dearly….absolutely lovely people….2 are always known by their full name Judith …..one is called Judi

GreenShady · 08/06/2024 11:01

I like Judy and Jude - Judith not so much, for me that name has aged and isn't ready to be brought back.

GreenShady · 08/06/2024 11:02

In my defence I do know one at work who is quite formidable and I can't imagine a baby with that name 😂

But perhaps being more Judith is not a bad quality.

Maireas · 08/06/2024 11:04

Surely each Judith is individual.

GreenShady · 08/06/2024 11:16

@Maireas I expect so, yes 😊
That was just my little joke.

Maireas · 08/06/2024 11:17

Oh I see.
It's certainly a strong name and different to the current fashion for twee.

Soubriquet · 08/06/2024 11:19

One of my friends has a little girl called Judith. The only one I know
