My favourite names, but my husband has vetoed some of them! We don't know what we are having. We are a Spanish-Irish couple which should explain some of the names. Would love some other suggestions to put to my husband. He is not very good at suggesting names! Thank you.

They are all beautiful. Stand at the bottom of your stairs and shout the names to upstairs and see what ones you like the best. (As you may in the future be doing that a bit 😂) Also have a think to what you/their friends might naturally shorten their name to and make sure you like that too.
I adore Mateo, Rafael, Antonia

I'd be inclined to go with more Spanish type names that are recognizable everywhere, and avoid letters that are pronounced differently in Spanish and English. No J, C, Ch, Sh, ll, or th names, for instance. Maybe names that are still a nod to the Irish heritage but would be easy to pronounce.

@lookingatlife
are you the Spanish or the Irish half of the couple?

Just in case you are not aware, both Lydia and Noelia sound very dated in Spain. Both names were very “in” in the 70s and early 80s. In fact Noelia is a very mid-70s girl name. There was this song “Noelia” by singer Nino Bravo. He was killed in an accident in 1973 and for a few years Noelia was a very fashionable name. As there have been Noelias before and after, the average age of Spanish Noelias is 30-something atm but it is a name that screams born in the 70s.

you can check average age of baby names in Spain and geo distribution here (official source, statistics office).

Thanks.

I'm actually Colombian but Spanish speaking. I like Noelia, but have been outside of Colombia for so long that I don't know how it sounds there! We won't be living in a Spanish speaking country, probably. We will actually be moving to a French speaking country soon so a name that works in English, Spanish, and French would be amazing.

My cousin (Spanish) married a French woman and they live between London and Madrid with visits to the French family. Their children are Isabella and Nicolás and the names work very well in the UK, Spain and France.

lookingatlife · 09/06/2024 17:13

Thank you! Isabella is too close to my name unfortunately!

Then look at saints names that have multi-national variations - for example, George, William or Nicholas, Sophie or Caroline or Mary.
