Lyla, Layla or something else?

Expecting a wee girl in July. Lyla was my initial favourite. Now swithering about Layla. Not 100% on either.

Which do you prefer? Please no negative comments as have no other favourites!

Also if you have any other suggestions based on this name taste please do suggest!

I think they’re both nice ! Have you considered leia / lelia / lyra?

Lyla is lovely. My friends just had a baby called Lyra just to throw you a potential curveball!

I prefer Layla to Lyla but would probably spell it Leila
Myla is also pretty

I love them both - I think I’d choose Layla, it has a really happy feel about it to me :)

I like pp suggestions of Lyra and Leia too. Or Isla, Lena, Lola, Clara, Lara, Cleo, Leah, Liza, Lydia, Lucy, Lois.

I prefer Layla, biased because I know a lovely Layla.

Not Lois. Nobody can pronounce it or spell it and its absolutely crap having a stupid name like Lois.

Its my given name so I know what I'm talking about. I got so sick of being called Lewis that I use my middle name instead.

Leila is my cousins name. That's pretty.

I don't like Lyla or Layla. Leila is nice but L names are so popular right now with many Lily, Lola, Lila, Lyla, Delilah, Lyra, Luna, Lucys etc.

Lila spelt like this is one of my favourite names. Unfortunately it doesn’t go without surname so I couldn’t use it.

Laia (LYE-ah) is very popular in Spain.

I love the name Lyla. I would like to use it myself someday but unfortunately DH isn’t a fan. Layla is nice as well but Lyla is much prettier in my opinion.

I'm a Leila (pronounced Layla). Everyone calls me Leela when they meet me for the first time which gets annoying, so I'd stick to the Layla spelling if that's the name you go with 🙂

@Cometcouple I do! It's unusual but not super out there. There are a few people around with the same name but not millions. No negative connotations. And helpful when I go to Turkey/Egypt/Dubai because it's a common name there so everyone remembers it!

We had both of those on our list and then went with Lyra instead 😊

There's a nice Turkish name Leyal.

My friend's daughter is Lyla - she gets very annoyed as people keep calling Leila. When she corrects them that it's Lyla, then they start writing her name as 'Layla'. A viscous circle
