Induction tomorrow; still no name!!!

I’m being induced tomorrow and we still have no name for our baby boy! There are names we like but none that we love. Any advice about what made you realise which name was the one?

Also any name suggestions would also be appreciated. His big sister is called Callie Isabelle. I’m not going to share the names we’ve whittled it down to purely because I know someone will probably share an opinion that will put me off, and we’re looking for possible new suggestions. I don’t like really traditional or old school names, but other than that we’re open to anything.

We had probably a girls name but no definite boy’s name when I went into labour. DS 1 had a cuddle with me and DH and DH said “Do you think he’s X?” And I said yes. And I love it and I’m still really pleased with it now he’s 5. We’d talked about it a bit but I don’t think I knew it was the front runner! Maybe it’ll come to you.

DS2 was harder!

When we had our third he came home without a name. We discussed with his older brothers back and forth for four days before we decided as a family.

My first will be 25 next year, she didn't have a name for ages! A couple of weeks at least. I hope you have an uneventful (except for the obvious) birth and I'm sure a name will present itself.

Obvious answer is If you couldn’t use a name (for any reason eg. bestmate suddenly announced pregnancy and says thats the name she always dreamed of using or dodgy person with that name suddenly in the news) which name would I most be upset about not being able to use?

BUT if that doesn’t work then do the analytical thing - pro and cons list for each name. ie. Is it currently trendy? (so will it show his age) Is there likely to be any spelling or pronunciation problems? How popular is it? (might be good or bad thing depending on your point of view) Is it internationally used if he travels abroad? etc Whatever categories are important to you.

If the pros and cons list doesn’t seem obvious at first , you might still find whilst doing it you get upset or happy that there are too many cons or pros for a particular name - that emotion tells you it’s the one!

Take the pressure off by deciding in advance that he won't have a name until you're both home from hospital. Let family know this too, perhaps when letting them know the news of his birth.

Then even if you think you know earlier you can just sit with the name until you are confident to share.
