Hi! We've finally settled on naming our daughter Marjorie, and now we're just looking for middle names. It doesn't need to have familial significance since Marjorie does already, so any suggestions you've got would be lovely!

This is our list so far:

Marjorie Eloise
Marjorie Aurelia
Marjorie Renée
Marjorie Juliette

FYI - she's a triplet (2 girls 1 boy) and the other girl was to be Cecilia Renée, but we're willing to switch it to something else if Renée works better for Marjorie! So something like Marjorie Renée, Cecilia Eloise IYSWIM. TIA!

Sorry but Marjorie is an awful name. Please don’t do that to your daughter. Life is tricky enough for teens these days without having a dreadful name. If you love it so much use it a middle name or change your own name to Marjorie but don’t inflict it on your kid.

The OP will be moving to the US, where nobody cares what anyone names their kids, ot at least most names don't carry the sort of connotations you find in the UK.

Plus, if she's English, the names of her children will be celebrated and considered delightful even if she calls them Wheelbarrow, Feather-Duster, and Bookend.

Well I know that's why I wouldn't call her either of those, that was just to say that if she chose to go by those on her own, I wouldn't mind. That was only in response to people saying I shouldn't use it if I hate any of the shortenings.

Jorie or Jo aren't stretches as nicknames either, and it really isn't that hard to ask people not to shorten names (at least in my families circle) I would know, as I have an easily shortened name that people refrain from shortening if I ask them to. But regardless, I don't mind if she chose to go by any of the shortenings once she was older! That was the only reason I even said Midge, I'm not calling my daughter Midge unless she wants it 😭

Midge would be lovely.

She might well end up as Marcie.

The emphasis of the name falls on the MAR syllable, so it's likely any abbreviation will have at least an M as it's first initial.

However, if you move to the US, you're likely to find your child's full name will be used. Americans tend not to abbreviate names unless the child comes with an abbreviation, which they will use.
