Of the girls names, Georgia is one of my favourite names :) I also like Joanne, and Irma could grow on me. Blanche and Cordelia are ok, but less to my taste. The others sound too too old fashioned and / or frilly to me.

Of the boys names, I love Alasdair and quite like Alec and Struan. Gordon and Gregory are ok but less to my taste. I’m not at all keen on the others.

wellingtonsandwaffles · 01/06/2024 20:18

Georgia is an absolutely lovely name - strong, traditional, but not too out there, with nn opportunities if you want

your other girls ones are too twee for me, apart from Joanne which is nice as a whole but I don’t like Jo

of your boys names I guess I like Alec the best though it will always be misheard as Alex. The others you’d have to be seriously posh to pull off!

Littletreefrog · 01/06/2024 20:19

Georgia and Struan. That is all.

Imnotticketyboo · 01/06/2024 20:21

I reckon norma is due a comeback. I like alec too, but can imagine you'll be repeatedly telling people it isn't alex.

MaryFuckingFerguson · 01/06/2024 20:23

They are almost exclusively very ugly names.

Georgia is ok but over-used.

Alasdair and Struan are ok.

ToffeenutLatte · 01/06/2024 21:35

From your girls list I love Blanche, Marjorie and Joanne (though I prefer Joanna)

The only boys name up there I would consider would be Alec, though like PP I think he'd have to spend a lot of time telling people it's "with a C" which would put me off somewhat.
I have a similar issue with my own name and correcting people all the time is tedious.

Am805463 · 01/06/2024 22:01

Georgia and Cordelia from your girls list and I love Struan from your boys. I don’t really like any of the others.

Nicebloomers · 01/06/2024 22:02

Love Virginia and Gregory the most. I had Virginia on my baby name list for my daughter.

Quite like Gloria rather than Gloriana and Marjorie is quite pretty. Alec and Alasdair are pretty tame and accessible compared to the others!

Would also suggest Sybil and Joyce.

Mumofgirls2017 · 01/06/2024 22:28

Georgia, Cordelia, Alec and Ali Sadie are acceptable, I find the rest a bit far from ‘comeback’ sorry!

sparkleowl · 01/06/2024 22:36

I like Georgia, and would prefer Alex to Alec which are both diminutives of Alexander, but Alec the old fashioned version, as in Alec Guinness the actor.
Gregory would always be Greg.
Don’t like the other names, sorry.

NetMum2 · 02/06/2024 04:38

Georgia and Joanne are both lovely names, but personally much prefer Joanna to Joanne.

I really like Gregory (and the nicknames Greg and Rory) and Struan is OK too if you have Scottish roots. I like Alec but agree with a previous poster that it may be mistaken for Alex, especially as Alexander and Alex are such popular names at the moment.

Joanna and Gregory get my vote!

MariaVT65 · 02/06/2024 04:41

I genuinely didn’t know Elmer was actually a name other than the elephant.

LemonCitron · 02/06/2024 04:44

Boys - I love Alasdair. Alec and Gregory are nice too.

Girls - I like Georgia. Prefer Gloria to Gloriana and Joanna to Joanne.

mathanxiety · 02/06/2024 05:16

From your girls' list I only like
Irma
Marjorie
Cordelia
Cornelia

Deom thebboys' list, I like all except
Elmer and Gregory.

Marjorie and Norma are fairly horrendous. Georgia is lovely and I prefer Joanna to Joanne which feels quite 80s.

Elmer is an elephant.

Cordelia and Struan - I’d say nice for any age, they are pretty timeless I think (although Struan might get trendy). Alec and the longer version Alexander is obviously more popular but it’s timeless too.

Alasdair (and similar Alastair) might be a touch 90’s but again, I think they are timeless in sound as Alexander variants.

Georgia is slightly 90’s but I also wouldn’t be surprised to meet one of any age, just like Georgina it’s fairly classic sounding (due to the link to perennial classic for boys George).

Gregory I actually can imagine making a comeback soon, it’s middle aged now but reminds me of popular Zachary in style.

Virginia is gorgeous in sound and should make a comeback (or rather it should never have gone away) but people fear the Virgin teasing.

Joanne - maybe, but I think Joanna will come back faster as Anna is still stylish as opposed to Anne.

Your other choices have not as nice sounds imo so even though they are retro in style , I’d be surprised if they become popular.

LemonTreeGrove · 02/06/2024 23:09

My favourites are Gregory and Marjorie.

Airysairy · 03/06/2024 11:49

I have an Alec. Generally no major issues with his name being misheard, but an occasional "like Alec Guinness" is needed! He is the only one I know of and we love his name. He is often known as Lecky, though!

Aleydis is beautiful - haven't heard it before? Where is it from?

I love Virginia, though fear inevitable teasing. A series of books I adored as a teen had a Virginia known as Ginty, which I always found impossibly cool :)

IamaRevenant · 03/06/2024 16:00

I love Georgia! One of my all time favourite names. I quite like Cordelia, Marjorie and Virginia but the potential shortenings would put me off the latter two... Ginty for Virginia is cool but I would be worried about it turning into Virgie, and Marj is a no! Cordie is ok. Aleydis is pretty - like PP I've never heard it before. Also like Alexis as a potential option? Not keen on the others.

I like Struan, Alec and Alasdair. Gregory is ok. A big no to the others, sorry!
