Adeline

but all beautiful and unique

Moreteaandchocolate · 31/05/2024 20:41

I like them all - this is my order of preference-

Cara (love this)
Ada (simple and lovely for all ages)
Adeline (I like Addy for short)
Alva (haven’t heard of it but it sounds nice)

WillMo · 31/05/2024 20:48

Adeline.

Addie for short.

I really love Cara, and love that in Gaelige it means friend, or lagin beloved. However, it is a very commonly used dog name where I am from in Ireland, sonI could not use it.

I love Ada too, Alva is quite nice but I dislike Adeline.

shoopshoopdedoo · 31/05/2024 21:42

I like Cara.

Not keen on any of the others. I used to like Ada, until someone said it made them think of a first aider, and now that’s all I can see! I think Adeline is a bit fussy and Alva makes me think of lungs.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 31/05/2024 21:53

Adeline is nice in a retro way, but might have spelling and pronunciation issues - seems to get Adaline too and people can’t decide if it’s “leen” or “lyne ”. To be fair, more popular Emmeline probably has the same issues.

Ada is a bit too trendy now for me ( it does have a fantastic namesake in Lovelace but is just so similar in sound to popular Ava).

Alva is okay, I don’t love or hate, but it’s quite similar to Alma which feels slightly old fashioned to me. Plus all these “a” starting and ending names feel very “now” (apart from something classic like Anna).

Cara is very pretty and has an obviously lovely meaning as a bonus - plus I like that it’s well known, simple to spell and say yet has never been that popular so hopefully wouldn’t date.

Cara is my favourite. Love it.
Ada reminds me too much of Ava, which is so popular at the moment.
Not a big fan of Adeline. To me it seems like it's trying too hard to be a change from Adele.
I don't know the name Alva - something is not quite right with that one for me.

Yes, I think that must be my problem with Alva too!

DramaAlpaca · 01/06/2024 02:26

Cara is pretty and has a nice meaning.

I'm not keen on Alva, I prefer the Irish original version which is Ailbhe.

Adeline is nice. Ada is a little bit too 'granny chic' for me.

KirstenBlest · 01/06/2024 11:02

Favourite: Cara
Least liked: Adeline, I don't like it at all

Alva makes me think of elver or Alvin.
Ada is only ok because of Ada Lovelace and makes me think of Aga.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 01/06/2024 11:04

Alva is a small town in Central Scotland

peaceinourtime · 01/06/2024 16:10

Alvina?

mathanxiety · 01/06/2024 17:25

I like Alva and Ada, not keen on Cara at all, or Adeline.

I also like the anglicized Irish name Alvy (from Ailbhe).

susiedaisy1912 · 01/06/2024 17:26

Adeline

mathanxiety · 01/06/2024 17:28

Cara is a wispy, insipid name imo.
Adeline reminds me of barbershop quartets, and "Sweet Adeline". I also hear a sawn off version of Madeline.
