Dorothy Violet or Molly Dorothy

Which name to pick?

OH grandmother was called Dorothy.

DD2 has been referred to as little Dot throughout pregnancy and first few weeks so would like to keep Dorothy for both those reasons above.

DD 1 Daisy

I love Daisy & Molly together. But also love Violet which OH has said no to. So trying to include as a second name. However not keen on Molly Violet.

I prefer Dorothy Violet. Molly Dorothy feels like there’s to many Y’s

Dorothy Violet sounds lovely! Agree on PP about too many Ys in the other.

Middle names are far less important than first names. Pick the first name that you want and then go from there.

Daisy and Dorothy is a bit much for me. I much prefer Daisy and Molly.

I think Molly Violet is lovely personally.

What about Theadora. So a nod to granny and Thea or Dora for short. My beloved grandma was Dorothy but not sure the name would work these days.l however I love Thea and Dora as nicknames

Rachel234561 · 31/05/2024 14:15

Molly is a favourite name of mine also.

pikkumyy77 · 31/05/2024 14:17

I think Molly Dorothy rapidly devolves to Molly Dolly. I think that might be a problem.

NetMum2 · 31/05/2024 14:17

I think Molly Violet sounds better than Molly Dorothy. And if you went with Molly Violet, family members could still continue to call her Dot as an affectionate name?

NetMum2 · 31/05/2024 14:18

Or Mollie Violet?

AddictedToBooks · 31/05/2024 14:20

Another possibility could be "Dorothea" - Dorothea Violet or Molly Dorothea.

Out of your current choices though, I think Dorothy Violet sounds much prettier and is a name that can grow with her.

Moreteaandchocolate · 31/05/2024 14:20

I much prefer the name Molly to the name Dorothy, so I would go for Molly Violet as I think this sounds nicer than Molly Dorothy. Shame you can’t have Violet as a first name - it’s beautiful:)

WaltzingWaters · 31/05/2024 14:22

Dorothy Violet

Looolaaa · 31/05/2024 14:25

Saying it in my head I’ve just said Morothy Dolly.

Definitely go with a Violet variation.

That's exactly what I'm thinking any thing except Molly Dolly. So I'd bin the Dorothy.

Just because it sounds cutesy or is there something I'm missing?

My thoughts entirely 😔

Dorothy Violet. Then you will have Dolly and Daisy, who sound like they are siblings from an Edwardian children's novel (which is a good thing).

MockneyReject · 31/05/2024 14:36

There's nothing wrong with Dorothy Violet.
Dorothy isn't usually shortened to Dolly - that's Dolores.

ZipZapZoom · 31/05/2024 14:39

Dorothy is lovely and the personal meaning behind it is very sweet. I'd go for Dorothy over Molly, Dotty and Daisy sound good together.

PaminaMozart · 31/05/2024 14:40

Violetta. Say it out loud..... it's beautiful!

Add Dorothea if it matters.

CountingCrones · 31/05/2024 14:47

Daisy and Dot is rather cute (or Dottie, or nickname of your choice) for siblings.

I’d go Dorothy Violet.
