This is my main hesitation with this name, does it sound wet/weak/soft to some people?
Pronounced Lou-ee

I'm considering this name too! I thought it sounded quite strong 😅the meaning is 'famous warrior' and it sounds quite regal to me, commonly used in royalty. And Louis Vuitton of course lol

My friend Louis - is an amazing actor / drama teacher and nothing soft or weak about him ! Although he is lovely

CountingCrones · 30/05/2024 11:19

A regal name, although with a tendency to weak chins

TemuSpecialBuy · 30/05/2024 11:23

I particularly hate weak names and never considered Louis weak.

its very much associated with kings, royalty, regalness in general 😅

Blueberry40 · 30/05/2024 11:26

I like it but I agree it is quite a soft name, not necessarily a bad thing at all but when I imagine a Louis he’s quite small, sweet and gentle. All the Louis I have known have been lovely.

Bumbleoranhe · 30/05/2024 12:01

I think it’s lovely sounding, not weak. It means famous warrior and is the name of many French kings!

BoleynMemories13 · 30/05/2024 12:07

Names ending in ee are softer sounding by nature but soft doesn't necessarily mean weak. I've never thought of Louis as a weak sounding name. It's lovely.

Moreteaandchocolate · 30/05/2024 12:11

I would class it as soft sounding but not feminine or weak.

zingally · 30/05/2024 14:22

I like the name.

I just picture Louis as nice friendly boys.

SilverSimca · 30/05/2024 14:34

Weirdly enough, I have always thought exactly that, that it does sound weak and a bit petulant. I must have read something when I was young with a character called Louis who was a bit of a drip, I think. Don't go by me though! If I met a Louis and they were nice I wouldn't think that, just if I see it written down.

Littlelillies · 30/05/2024 17:54

Yes, soft sounding and not that nice imo - sounds like a cute form for a loo 🚽 Blush

RogueFemale · 30/05/2024 20:43

Yes, I do think it sounds weak and effete and drippy as a UK male name. Yes, there are French kings etc. But I don't think this translates into UK boy or man.

Ketzele · 30/05/2024 21:35

My godson Louis is a prize winning strongman (you know, the ones who pull buses with their teeth!)

Louis is well known as a male name.
I don't associate it with any weakness.

Confident, successful, creative and cute..
