Help us choose! Leo, Jacob, Seth

We're having a boy and we're really struggling with names. We have a daughter and found picking a girl's name much easier for some reason. Our top three are Leo, Jacob and Seth. I like all three but don't feel really strongly about any of them. (With my daughter, something clicked and I knew her name couldn't be anything else once we picked it.) I'd love to know others' thoughts...

I like all 3 and found it particularly hard to choose between Jacob and Leo! I went for Jacob in the end as it’s one of my favourite classics but I’ve also got a real soft spot for Leo.

FixItUpChappie · 28/05/2024 17:39

I think Leo is overused at this point so I would say - Seth personally.

Beautifulbythebay · 28/05/2024 17:40

Would you mind if Jacob became Jake or Seth became Sethie?
Leo would always be Leo! I personally chose names with limited options for changing!!

SleepEatSnoozeRepeat · 28/05/2024 17:42

Leo is my favourite (I have one) and I like that it doesn't get messed with.
Jacob is nice, may well get shortened to Jake. I know boys who use both forms.
Seth is probably the least common, still nice. Will there be issues with him becoming Sefffff though? Some accents it sounds awful.

Other options I liked as I think we have similar taste!
Isaac
Jonah
Elijah

They are all good names! I voted for Jacob.

Perhaps wait until he is born, and then see what name he looks like? Some parents can kind of feel which name is right when they meet the baby.

Good luck!

FlambeJones · 28/05/2024 18:39

Seth is my favourite,
Jacob is nice, a bit safe maybe,
Leo, I like but prefer Leon. Interestingly on the nicknames, I know two Leos both early 20's, one is mostly called Lee and the other has been Lilo virtually from birth.

alexdgr8 · 28/05/2024 18:43

Jacob.
Seth is too obscure, and not distinctive enough sounding.
some people will not know how to spell it = problems, esp over the phone.
better to have a well-recognised name.
Leo is ok, but i think Jacob.

StampOnTheGround · 28/05/2024 18:48

Leo is top of my list if we were to have another boy. DS is Max.

TheCultureHusks · 28/05/2024 18:50

Leo is the classiest.

I like Jacob too but prefer Joseph.

Seth is ok but just not as nice - feels a bit insubstantial

shoopshoopdedoo · 28/05/2024 20:04

I love Leo. I’m not keen on Jacob for some reason - never have been - but I do really like Jake. Seth isn’t for me.

BoleynMemories13 · 28/05/2024 21:09

I love Leo and Jacob. I'm much less keen in Jake though, so voted for Leo as I feel Jake is probably inevitable.

Seth isn't for me.

Ilovewillow · 28/05/2024 21:36

Totally biased, I have a Seth. It's a great name, never been shortened or a nickname used and the majority of adults managed to say it with a th rather than ff. Have to say Leo and Jacob are also lovely names.

Fontainebleau007 · 29/05/2024 14:31

Leo

CuriousGeorge80 · 29/05/2024 14:34

Seth is top 1% bad names for somebody with a lisp. From experience, I would avoid this just in case if you really aren’t committed to it.

I would go with Leo.

LikeWhoUsesTypewritersAnyway · 29/05/2024 14:36

Defo Leo. Love that name. Smile

CurlewKate · 29/05/2024 14:45

As someone who couldn't say the th sound in my own name until I was a teenager, and who lives in Kent, where a lot of people can't, I'd be wary of Seth! I'd go for Leo of the three.

Sunnnybunny72 · 29/05/2024 14:57

Jacob.
Not Seth.

WaitingforRainbows9 · 29/05/2024 21:26

Thank you for all of the input, everyone! It's really useful to hear everyone's thoughts and experiences. It's so tough - I think Jason and Leo are at the top but I might need to do what you suggest, @SkaneTos and see if we have a gut feeling when the little one arrives...! We could always use the other one as a middle name too. 😊

I had to wait til we saw LO to choose, but I do love Seth (and the only one I know is actually Joseph and has become Seth as a nickname)
