Name horrible in my accent

Have you ever loved a name but couldn't use it because it's awful in your accent? Even if you said it properly you know everyone else you know wouldn't 😂

for me I live in a part of the country where T's are pronounced weirdly. E.g

water is (war-uh)
hunter is (hunt-uh)
bath path laugh (baff, paff, laff)

I know it's awful, but everyone I know speaks like this, I was actually talking to my friend about it earlier, she moved here when she was 8 from London and she now speaks this way too

When I was pregnant with my first daughter I loved the name Hattie, but when I said it to my partner he said it's a cute name but did you hear what you actually just said?

My Grandmas friend always introduced herself as 'Ellen with a haitch!

I hate the way George Clarke says 'Ah-itetcha'. He's an architect and can't even say it!

Im from northern Ireland and have quite a strong accent compared to my friend who moved up here years and she would ring me or get me to voice note baby names that she messaged so she could see if she could put it on her list or not 😆

My daughter was in Northern Ireland staying with cousins when she was about 8. She insisted that they had a friend called Wee Urn.
She was called Erin.

As a Scottish person I can't say Karl, sounds like Carroll or Cal, either too much R or none at all.

An old fashioned name now but "Natalie" also sounds rough with my accent.

In fact I didn't even notice until my southern partner commented

I am from the NE originally, and a friend named her son Ryan, but the y is very elongated in the NE, Ryyyyan and it doesn't sound great.

Another friend always loved the name Archie, but where she is from in Scotland it would be pronounced more like Erchie, so she avoided it.

Loved the name Pearl, but just knew she would be "Peril" here I Scotland. Such a pretty name and it's just butchered here!

I worked with a woman who couldn't pronounce her own DD's name correctly. DD was called Siân. The accent makes that a long 'a' but the DM was from the mid West and couldn't manage a long 'a' to save her life! Every time she called her DD 'Shan' all the Welsh speakers in the office cringed.

For a decade I thought Barry from friends was called ‘Berry’

In my Scottish accent, Karl would be Carol and Pearl would be Peril as a PP said. However I don't do glottal stops so Peter is safe.

I taught in England where we had a girl of Scottish parents called Catriona. They got very annoyed when it was pronounced Cat-ree-oh-na

My surname starts with a vowel and my DM is not British and fancied Emma which in her accent would be just as written but in most British accents plus a vowel would come out as "Emmur". Think Emmur Oliver.

Luckily my DF and the local accent where I grew up do pronounce mid-word Ts so I am the equivalent of Hattie.
Except then if I go to the US I am Haddy.
